How do you make your marinades?

Or if you don't make them, which have you bought and loved?  I'm bored with my standard one.

Re: How do you make your marinades?

  • I made a new one recently (on first page of blog - got it from wm sonoma - balsamic rosemary yum!)

  • for? pork? fish? chix?
  • Tonight it's chicken.

  • Depending on the dish/meat, i'll use any combination of EVOO, worcestershire, vinegar (balsamic, red wine, rice), fish/oyster sauce, soy sauce, garlic, onion, wine, orange juice, brown sugar, and normal spices.

I don't have any standard marinade, i just throw together what i have and what compliments each other....

Otherwise, i LOVE Drew's dressing for marinades.  Depending on the store, It can be found in the dressing isle or the health section.
  • For somethings. Open wishbone italian dressing bottle. pour contents into ziplock bag. Viola!

  • For grilling chicken or steak....equal parts dry sherry and soy sauce.  2 tsp. powdered ginger, 1/4 cup evoo, and several minced garlic cloves.

    It's so delish.
  • I love to use salad dressings as marinades. My favorite is the Ken's Basil Vinaigrette. Last year I used this Price Chopper brand one that was an Asian Ginger dressing, and I marinated everything with that. I no longer live near a Price Chopper, but I've recreated it with Rice Wine Vinegar, Orange juice, minced ginger, soy, and some sugar.

  • For store-bought, we actually just had a really tasty one from Target (their brand, I think).  It was Spicy Chile Pineapple, and it was delish on our center-cut pork chops, but I think it would be good on chicken, too.
  • Steffie, I was just about to type that! Steak and chicken that's great.
