Moms - recommened a good baby reference type book

What do you have that you have found helpful?

Re: Moms - recommened a good baby reference type book

  • I relied on What to Expect the first year w/my son, and just recently picked up a used copy of Dr. Spocks Baby and Childcare book.    What to expect helped w/figuring out illnesses and signs and symptoms, etc early on.  The Dr Spock book is huge and has alot of good info in as well.  Oh also forget that I have Touchpoints by Dr. Brazelton.  This was a gift from MIL.  She is always buying me books to help w/DS and current symptoms he has.

I also have a few freebies that you will most likely get from your pedi or in the hospital in regards to the first year and breastfeeding (if you decide to go this route).

I have other toddler books as well, which are most likely not what you are looking for at the moment.

Based on other recommendations on here, I am getting the Baby Whisperer and the Toddler whisperer  from Paperback Swap.

  • I have the first year week by week and what to expect the first year.  I don't read them much.
  • The Mother of All Baby Books, Ann Douglas. (it's like it's coming from a well-intentioned aunt, not an alarmist).

The Wonder Weeks taught me a ton, but it's out of print and $80 or more now. But honestly, worth the expense. It's about developmental leaps and how you as a parent, are not actually insane.

  • The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer was great, and we got a lot out of it (her E.A.S.Y. plan really helped us get E. on a schedule).

I try to read First Year Week by Week each week and WTEThe First Year each month.
  • Well, I'm sure not everyone will agree with me - and it depends on what you think you're going to be doing, but I read Baby Whisperer, Baby Wise, and Ferber's Sleep book.  Take each and every one of them with a grain of salt.

I also liked - for myself - This is NOT What I Expected
  • Baby 411! Best baby reference book ever! :) IMO of course. My friends all love it too. I just got Toddler 411 and it's just as good as the baby one! I highly recommend it!!
  • I like Dr. Spock and Dr. Sears' books.
  • Baby 411 (good reference book)

What to Expect the First Year

The Girlfriends Guide to the First Year (for you)

I had The Baby Whisperer and hated it (but that's my opinion, other people have found it helpful)

  • I prefer www.thenest.com

    LOL

i am way to lazy to read a book, i dont have to go out and buy it and i prefer multiple opinions versus that of only one author.

    hahaha

  • Thanks ladies!  I'll check these all out and see what appeals to me!
  • I love Baby 411....easy to read and find what you are looking for.  I also have what to expect the first year, your baby week by week and Dr. Seras The Baby book.
