How long does sauce stay good?

I opened up a jar of vodka sauce at least two weeks ago, and it's still half-full in the fridge. I'm assuming it's no good? I'm so bad at fridge-keeping times.

Re: How long does sauce stay good?

  • I would say its still good if 1-there arent any black crusties on the lid, and 2-no moldy mold growing and 3-it doesnt smell foul.
  • From the Contadina website:

    6. How long can tomato products be kept in the refrigerator after they are opened?

Tomato products can be kept in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. Remove the balance of the product from the opened can and place it in a container equal in size to the amount of product. Seal tightly. This reduces the amount of air in contact with the tomato product. Air causes oxidation and the product will turn black.

  • WOW. i'm way off. I save things for SEVERAL weeks. LOL

and i've used it too provided it meets all of my criteria above.

  • Barilla and Classico say 3-5 days. A lot of the time, when something is spoiled, it won't smell, look, or taste any different. So you really shouldn't use those to make a judgment.

  • Eeegad! 3-5 days? I was definitely keeping things way too long. I suppose I won't be using my two-week-old vodka sauce.

    Thanks for the tips! :)
