Moms- feeding solids question

When are we able to give Elizabeth the Stage 2 foods?  She's had almost all of the Stage 1s, so do we switch once she's had those?  Or is it an age thing?

Re: Moms- feeding solids question

  • not exactly sure. Both boys never liked the stage 1 so we always went to the 2's. Mattingly is actually starting to like the stage 3 fruits at this point & he is just over 8 months.
  • I went to stage 2 after Ava had tried all of the stage 1s.  Give it a try, if it's too soon, you'll know about it pretty quickly.
  • Hey Tracy, Nathan's been eating stage 2 foods for a while now so I would say try Elizabeth on them.  The only different really is that they come in bigger containers and that they are a bit thicker.  That's what our pedi told us.  How's she doing with her eating and bottles?
  • Yikes, if the containers are bigger, I don't think we're ready to switch.  Sometimes she eats great (half a container) but sometimes she just takes a few bites, and a container doesn't get eaten up in the recommended 2-3 days, since we try to do fruit in the AM and veggie in the PM.  I think she probably needs more time on the Stage 1.

Her eating is going okay.  She still fights her bottles, but her volumes are increasing, which is good, once she settles in and drinks.  Her day care provider even called me at work earlier to say E. took her bottle without a single peep, and she was so excited to tell me.  :-)  Unfortunately, E. was only up 5 oz (in 2 weeks!!) at her weight check yesterday, which was very disappointing.  I really thought she was going to be up quite a bit more, since she seems so much bigger to me.  :-(

  • Stage 2 isn't that much different.  Bigger containers and a little bit thicker, which she might actually like better.  Stage 3 is when they start to get chunky, but by then I was giving Molly table food so we didn't do a whole lot of stage 3 jarred food.

  • I think the biggest difference in stage 2 is the portion size, also they offer more choices.
  • We just started Aidan on Stage 2 simply because Sweet potatoes were the only stage 1 veggie he would eat.  I needed more variety, but I thinkhe is thinking, wheres my sweet potatoes.
