Poll: Songs you want young girls to hear
If you could make an inspirational, respect yourself type of mix for a 12-14 year old girl, what would you put on it and why?
Re: Poll: Songs you want young girls to hear
Here are some of my ideas...
-Take Me or Leave Me - from Rent, for saying that if someone doesn't like you the way you are, too bad for them
-Irreplaceable - Beyonce - because I think a lot of girls should heed the line "Well, if I'm not your everything, how about I be nothing? Nothing at all to you?"
-Stupid Girls - Pink - because it is a great reminder of what girls shouldn't focus on!
-Proud - Biggest Loser theme song - because everyone should end their day thinking "What have I done today to make me feel proud?"
Defininitely Martina Mcbride's "This One's For The Girls"
This One's For The Girls
This is for all you girls about thirteen
High school can be so rough, can be so mean
Hold onto, onto your innocense
Stand your ground when everybody's giving in
This one's for the girls
This is for all you girls about twenty-five
In little apartments just trying to get by
Living on, on dreams and Spaghetti-Os
Wondering where your life is gonna go
This one's for the girls
Who've ever had a broken heart
Who've wished upon a shooting star
You're beautiful the way you are
This one's for the girls
Who love without holding back
Who dream with everything they have
All around the world
This one's for the girls
This is for all you girls about forty-two
Tossing pennies into the fountain of youth
Every laugh, laugh line on your face
Made you who you are today
Yeah we're all the same inside
From one to ninety-nine
Why? To teach them to rely on themselves.
Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on
Be yourself be everything you can
And don't you worry what those bitter hearts are gonna say....
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride, everything everything will be just fine...
"It takes a (man) to suffer ignorance and smile. Be yourself, no matter what they say."
definitely agree with the Martina McBride suggestion!
I think I might also include Life is Sweet by Natalie Merchant... and maybe 32 Flavors by Ani DiFranco...
This One's for the Girls by Martina McBride
Would it be cheesy if I said I'm not a Girl, not yet a Woman by Britney?
Wide Open Spaces by the Dixie Chicks
...let me keep thinking
Intuition by Jewel is another good one... follow your heart, your intuition!
this is tough, because when i was that age the grunge era was in full swing and all I wanted to listen to was Soundgarden and Pearl Jam
Martina McBride-This One's for the Girls
Jewel-Stronger Woman
Leann Womack-I Hope You Dance
Celine Dion-Power of the Dream (from the Atlanta Olympics)
The bottom two aren't really "respect yourselves' type songs, but they are 'you can do anything' type songs.
Video by India Arie is a must! Here are the lyrics http://www.lyriczz.com/lyriczz.php?songid=14799
