At what age did you introduce sippy cups?

Re: At what age did you introduce sippy cups?

  • we started at 6 months.  She didn't get the hang of it until about 9-10 months (I think).
  • we are in the process of introducing the sippy to Mattingly now. We waiting a bit longer with JT (maybe 11 months) & it took forever. He basically went from the bottle to wanting a cup with no lid.
  • We just bought one last week. :)
  • Fitzy, which one(s) did you get?

Can you believe our girls are a few days away from 6 months?!!

  • around 6-7 months maybe.. she took to them pretty much right away.
  • No, I can't believe it!  We bought the Avent one with two handles and a removable sippy part...it's specifically for 6-12 month olds.  Next time I'm at Whole Foods I will buy the Born Free one...they didn't have it at BRU.

Now I just need to figure out what to put in it - will you do formula or water, or something different?  I know I don't want to introduce juice right now, but that's as far as I've gotten.
  • We're just starting to now, as she's trying to hold her bottles and not having much luck.  We're trying the Born Free and the Avent.  She's not getting the hang of it yet, but we're gonna keep trying!  We're putting formula in it, BTW.
  • Cool, thanks.  Will have to make a trip to Target (hate schlepping to BRU) tomorrow or Friday.  Since I don't put Julia's bottles in the dishwasher, I think I'll pass on the Born Frees, but let me know if you think they're good.

Have no idea what we'll put in it.  We'll prob try both water and formula and see what happens.  She's still not terribly excited about food so I have a feeling that she won't be all that excited about drinking in a new way, but we'll see how it goes.

Just when I feel as if we're down to a routine, we have to start new things...

  • I hear you on the new things.  I might actually wait till Abby's 6 month appt in a couple of weeks to introduce the cup, because she's not supposed to have formula without cereal in it and that's not going to work in the sippy.  I am a little nervous about this whole food/drink thing.  The bottles are working well for us!

  • 10 mos? She was never one to hold her own bottles so she wasn't a fan for awhile. Eventually it catches on.
  • Around 7 months I would put one on Lucas' tray with every meal....for a while he just played with it.  We tried so many different brands....so far I like the playtex or avent cups the best.
