XP: 50th Anniversary Party Help needed
Hi Girls! I was just informed today by my mom that we need to plan a
50th wedding anniversary party for my grandparents this October. We're
curious if it's customary to have tickets for guests/invitees to
purchase in order to cover some of the costs (dj, meal, drinks, etc) or
is that really rude to ask? In our area, we've always had to buy
tickets for Jack and Jill's and we just were not sure if this would be
the same type of scenario.
I just got married so funds are tight
and we'll be on a limited budget if we have to cover all of the costs
for this party so any creative ideas for us would be so appreciated as
well!!!
Re: XP: 50th Anniversary Party Help needed
Are there other people you can ask to help host with you & defray the costs? Grandchildren, etc? In lieu of an anniversary gift, they can all pitch in for the party. If other people want to celebrate these 50 years of marriage, then I think they should be willing to help out financially. You can't be expected to foot the entire bill. It might just be where I'm from, but I'm not too comfortable asking "guests" to pay for things if I've invited them.
Can you have it at someone's house? The Common Man does reasonable catering or you can do potluck. Also, Sundays & lunch are cheaper than Saturdays & evenings. Good luck.
Well, I've only been to one party where we were asked to cover our own costs of attending. It was a 60th birthday party for my aunt and it was held at a really nice hotel. The meal was catered and we paid for our own plates. However, that was in lieu of gifts.
I am with you, I would not feel comfortable asking guests to foot their own bill and personally when I attended this party we ended up spending more than we could really afford, but what could we do? It would have been really rude not to attend (it's a close aunt). Another idea to save money would be to get together with all the "close" family members on the planning. The problem you run into then though is if they're paying then they all have a say in what happens...which could get chaotic.
A few years ago we threw a really big 70th birthday party for my grandmother that was a huge success. We got most of the supplies and food at BJ's and had it at a church hall that we were allowed to use for free since many family members belong to the church. BJ's has some really good frozen appetizers that just need to be thrown in the oven. Also we bought veggies, chips and dips and made platters of those too. For the cake we just got a big sheet cake and decorated it with flowers. We had it on a Sunday afternoon, after "lunch time" but before "dinner time" so it was more just snack/finger foods, but even then there was tons of food left over. I want to say we did it for about $500. Sorry this was long...HTH!
I like this idea...We are using the "after lunch" but "before dinner" idea for Mason's birthday party so we don't have to go all out and feed everyone. We will provide cheese and crackers, veggie tray and some fruit too. And of course cake! Oh and you can really dress up a plain sheet cake with some silk flowers that look real. I did this with our wedding cake and NO ONE knew they were fake!
Hi Candi!
We recently threw my parents a 25th wedding anniversary party. We did a brunch and it turned out to be less expensive than doing dinner. As for music we brought our own cd player and Jarod made mixes that we knew the crowd would enjoy.
We kept it pretty low key but big enough that they could enjoy being with everyone. We also asked my parents to make a guest list of 50 people, should have remember that about 20% wouldn't be able to attend and should have asked for a bigger list, but I always think "what if all could come, could we afford to pay for everyone?"
Have fun!
