Had my first stupid PG comment made to me today

I'm surprised it took this long!!  I was at the salon waiting for my appt and the girl at the desk asked how much longer I had.  I said 5 weeks, and then she asked if I knew what I was having.  I said no, it's a surprise.  Then she looked right at me and said, "But you're only having one??  Wow!!"

Why are people so dumb?  I mean, it's funny from people I know, because I know this belly is getting large, but from a stranger it's a little rude!!!

Re: Had my first stupid PG comment made to me today

  • I don't think people realize how rude it sounds until it happens to them. ;-)
  • Oh!!  And then I got up from the sink and another lady goes, "8 mos along, huh??!!"
  • I heard that several times w/ Anthony and a couple times w/ this one.  I HATE when people say it...so rude and NOT funny at all.

The fact that you are just hearing it just means you had a super cute bellly through your whole pregnancy...lucky duck!

  • I don't think anyone could say that to a pg woman and make it sound nice. Seriously.

Pg women, if I ever say something so insensitive, please flick me 'twixt the brows.

  • Oh, people are morons.  I got "are you sure there's only one in there?!?!?" from numerous people when I was at your stage.  At first I was taken aback and then I got nasty.  lol  My favorite reply?  "Yes there's one in here.  Are you sure YOU'RE not having a couple?  The bloat you've got has me wondering."  Not my finest hour, for sure.

  • I have to wonder what these same idiots say to people who are actually having twins.   "Are you sure there aren't 4 in there"
  • LOL

I was so taken aback that I couldn't do anything but laugh.  Like I said, I don't mind from people I know.  My SIL and DH's cousin are both due the same time as me (SIL 4/28 and cousin 5/15) and I am WAY bigger than both of them.

  • which reminds me that we need a recent belly pic.

    TIA!

  • No one has said this to me, although several ppl have said "You don't look PG, just fat."  Nice.  I appreciate that.

People need to learn that anything said to a PG woman about her size is inappropriate.  Period.

  • Cora, that's way worse!!
  • Duff - I did a belly pic last week!!  I'll post some from my shower after Sunday!
  • I had my first comment last Tuesday.

I was wearing a loose fitting shirt, had just had a really big lunch & had to pee really bad. Someone I'd just met said "you're only 2 1/2 months?!? and there's only one in there?? oh boy! you're gonna be in trouble."

    thanks. a-hole.

between that & my MIL's comment on Easter: "I know you're having a boy because you're carrying it all in your butt."

apparently, I'm not looking as good as I think I do.

Definitely NOT a fan of people making comments. I need to start coming up with clever comebacks. A lot of the girls on the baby boards recommend making comments about the size of the offender's stomach. I just don't know if I'd have the guts to do that though. We'll see...
  • Becky - I can attest that you look awesome! Just ignore the stupid comments you're getting. Though you did have me chuckling over the 2.5 months pregnant/you had to pee comment :-)
  • ok that was totally rude, and I'm surprised it took this long for you to get one of those "fun" comments also!
