Nickname?

So we're having a big debate about nicknames for our son in our family.  Frankly, I don't think it's anyone's business and we'll probably just see what comes out of our mouths when he gets here, but for fun I thought I'd get some opinions.  DS will be John George (after DH and he'll be another John in a very long line of Johns on both sides).  So since we have many Johns, everyone wants to know what we will be calling him.  A few people have suggested JG, using his initials.  I do like this idea, but it doesn't seem to flow like other initial nicknames I've heard...TJ, JD, AJ, etc.  So JG, yay or nay?

Re: Nickname?

  • hmmm doesnt relaly roll off the tongue very well IMO but if you like it, go for it.

What about calling him by his mn?

  • Oh, and my personal favorite to call him right now is just J or Jay.  Both grandmothers are appalled at this, but I like it...maybe it will stick : )

  • I agree with PGH - how about his middle name?  I love the name George!  i think JG sounds awkward.
  • I like J or Jay a lot better.  JG doesn't really roll well.  Good luck!

  • I was going to suggest Jay as well.
  • yeah I would prefer just J or Jay over JG myself

  • I knew a JohnG in college (pronounced Johnjee). I always thought that was cute. But I do agree that JayGee is hard to say.
  • I might be alone on this one, but JG sounds good to me for a family nickname, his friends might call him a different one.
  • I've heard Jack as a very popular nickname for John. I don't think JG rolls off the tongue very well either. A friend of mine dated a Jay (or J). I didn't know for the longest time, that was a nickname and not his real name. I also have a few friends who go by their middle names. George is a great name too.

  • I like J or Jay too. As you and pp's said, JG doesnt roll that easy
  • I'm honestly not a fan of JG, but I know several John's who go by the name Jack, which is becoming a very popular name these days.  I really like Jack.  What about the middle name, like others mentioned?
  • if our baby had been a boy we would have named him John (after DH) and called him Jack.
  • My mom's cousin actually named her son John George, and I'm pretty sure they just call him John George. You don't really need a nickname. It's still only 2 syllables.

  • I love Jay as a nickname. My closest friend growing up is named John Andrew III and his nickname is Jay.
  • Jack is Jack's birth name, however he is named after his late Pop-pop named John.  We too have long lines of "John"s in the families and wanted to honor DH's dad, but didn't want another John.  I like the name John but I love that we decided to call/name him Jack.  So...long story short, I'd go with Jack.  As for JG, not so much, doesn't flow.  I am a fan of Jay, as my step brother is called that and his name is John too.
  • Jay or Jack

Not sure what his last name is.

Then you can use that and skip the G all together.
