No progress at 38 week appt

I had my 38 week appointment today and the doctor said I was not dilated or effaced and the baby was high. I was like, "what?" Last week the midwife said I was 60 percent effaced! So the doctor said it's all subjective, before conceding that I might be about halfway effaced--which seemed to be his way of humoring me. Sigh. It's not like I should be in any big hurry since I still have tons of stuff to get done before the baby arrives. Of course, now that I know there's NO progress, I'll continue to put all those things off till the last possible minute anway. I also had an ultrasound to check on the size since I was measuring small a couple weeks ago. Everything looked great. The baby seems to weigh around six pounds and fluid levels are good. So the waiting game continues. Call me crazy, but I'd have to say this is my favorite part of pregnancy. The anticipation and excitement is this constant, hopeful thing. There's really nothing like it.

Re: No progress at 38 week appt

  • sounds like baby is doing good, labor dust to you!

  • I know what you mean about being on the cusp - what a cool feeling - it can't be duplicated.

What's it like to be looking at a nearly 3 year old at the same time?

  • I can't beleive you're 38 weeks already!

I don't think you're crazy...that's one of the things I'm very sad about having to have a c-section this time around...just never again experiencing that excitement of "is this it?"   I agree- nothing like it.

Good Luck...and just b/c there's no progress doesn't mean anything.  My friend came to see me when I had Anthony she was 37wks and 5 days and she cried b/c she had "no progress" at her appt that day and swore she'd be pregnant forever.  She had the baby 2 days later ;)

  • ok, i have no patience whatsoever, so at this point I wanted the baby OUT!  Good for you for hanging in there!  You are really close though...i'm sure your little one will arrive before you know it!  gl!

  • Just think...in two weeks (or less) your little one will be here!

    I can see why you're excited :).
  • thanks for the update!   I guess my dream isn't coming true, huh?  I hope I didn't get your hopes up!
