Hello!
First, I wanted to say that I'm glad to hear your lasik surgery went well.  I have been trying to get my DH to do it too, he's practially legally blind without his glasses or contacts, but he's too afraid to have this done to his eyes.  Anyways, I digress on my reason for posting to you.  I just saw your TTC post below, and I wanted to share with you what I went through when thinking about TTC as well.  I initially had the same plan as you--I was going to start TTC in April/May and back my maternity leave up to the summer vacation.  However, like you as well, I had worries about not conceiving quickly or having trouble getting pregnant altogether.  DH and I talked about this, and we decided that rather than be stressed out about getting pregnant within a certain window of time (to make it work with summer) we were just going to start trying, and whatever happens would be what was meant to happen.  So, I went off the pill in December......Little did we know, I ended up pregnant in mid January!....We were thrilled, however, never in our wildest dreams thought it would happen so quickly.

Our baby is due on October 10th, and we've decided that I'm just going to take the remainder of they year off, and come back to school for the following September.  I felt bad about starting the year with new kids for about 6 weeks or so, but in talking with my DH, realized that I had to do what was best for my family, rather than my students.  Obviously, I'm going to hope that they find a wonderful sub for me, and I'm going to try to prepare this person as best that I can so my kids succeed, but essentially, it's out of my hands.

I guess what I wanted to tell you was just that you have to do what is best for you and your DH.  If you feel ready to start TTC now, then you should do it.  Like you said, and like I thought as well, you never know how long it could take, or how quickly it could happen.  I've always believed that what is meant to be, will be.  Don't worry about school and your students if the whole pregnancy/summer vacation thing doesn't pan out for you.  The longer I've been pregnant, the happier I've become that I'm going to have a longer maternity leave, and more time with my baby before going back to work.  You'll be able to work out what is best for your family!!!
