"New" pics of the house we're buying

We were at the house yesterday for the inspection, so I took a bunch of pictures. It looks kind of different without all the furniture in it and from different angles.

The breezeway between the garage and kitchen. We'll probably use this as a playroom for Cassidy. The seller is supposed to be putting beige carpet in there and we'll probably take the paneling down and sheetrock it.

That back porch you can see through the sliders will hopefully be taken down this summer. It's not in very good shape and DH wants to build a deck there eventually.

The kitchen no longer has wallpaper in it.

The original 1960 oven. It is scary. The inspector turned it on and it emitted this foul odor and we had to open all the windows. LOL

The skinny half bath. It's between the living room and kitchen (on the other side of the fridge wall).

This will be Cassidy's room.

We'll use this bedroom as an office and probably a spare bedroom after we have baby #2.

This will be baby #2's room when the time comes.

I didn't take a picture of the dining room. Oh well. It still has ugly wallpaper in it, but they took down the paneling that was on the bottom half of the wall. ;-)

We have our work cut out for us, but it will be worth it in the end!

Re: "New" pics of the house we're buying

  • Looks like the house has good bones! Once you get in there & get things the way you want them, it'll be gorgeous!

    Congratulations!
  • Congrats Jan!  I'm sure you'll have fun making it your own.  :-)
  • Jan

    Congrats!  It looks really nice!!!

  • That's so exciting Jan!  The  bedrooms look awesome, great hardwood floors and new paint!  Looks like you're doing some work to the downstairs, but I can tell it will be perfect!  It looks like a lot of room and a great floor plan!

    Congrats again!

  • Looks great.  It's a plus that there isn't wallpaper in the kitchen anymore...one less room you'll have to do :).

I love how big the backyard is.   Looks like you'll have tons of playroom outside for the kiddos :).
  • Looks great!  You must be so excited!  It's so nice to have the room for your family to grow.  Can't wait to see all the after pics as well.  Congrats!
  • Jan the house looks great!  We had a lot of work to do to our house to make it our "own".  We took down wallpaper and borders in almost every room.  We still have some to go (2 years later!), but that is ok with us.  You'll have it done in no time.

How long until you close?   Did you say a month?
  • It's very nice Jan! It's going to look fabulous when you're done! :D

  • Meg, we're pretty sure we're closing on April 25th, but that date hasn't been set in stone yet. I hope we do because then we can move in over that weekend and not have to pay May's rent.
  • Awesome! Moving is very fun/stressful. Enjoy making the house into a home.

  • Congrats Jan! The house looks great and those hardwood floors look beautiful! My suggestion which we went back & forth on.... they sell this filler thing that you put on the paneling so you don't have to rip it down. I kinda wish now we had did that b/c the walls were crap under neath.... BUT on the other side of that the walls wouldn't be insulated if we just covered the paneling... so it's a flip of a coin... BUT the option to not rip it down and fill in the cracks is out there, just so you know. Also this great paintable wall paper, it's to fix crappy walls and smooths it all out, I bought some for the kitchen since we have 2 bad walls, I'm putting it up this weekend if you want a "how easy is it" kinda review.
  • OMG super pictures :) So happy for you! Looks like you found a great find!

Maybe the stove will set you more money off the house :)??

  • Thanks, ladies!

wintergreen- we are getting a pretty good deal on the house basically because of the entire kitchen and some other things that need to be repaired. We plan to gut the kitchen anyway, so we're not going to nitpick over that kind of stuff. ;-)
  • Very nice!  Congratulations!!!
  • wow! GORGEOUS! Looooove the hardwoods!

  • Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Congratulations Jan! Everything looks good & when you put your own stamp on it, it will look awesome. :-)
  • Hey Jan, looks awesome!  As pp said, "good bones."  I actually like the paneling in the breezeway, assuming it's in as good condition as it seems from the photos.

I'm SO excited for you!  Do you have a closing date yet?

  • Thanks for sharing the pics!  What an exciting time for you guys!  You'll  have such a great time making it your own!
