Resume question

I am currently working on updating my resume since good ol' Governor Ted decided to take the majority of my employer's endowment money, leaving us with only one year's worth of operations. You might have seen it on the news: http://www.nbc4i.com/midwest/cmh/news.apx.-content-articles-CMH-2008-04-08-0029.html

Needless to say it's been insane around here and I am so sadened that our legislature doesn't care about helping educate kids to not start smoking and helping adults quit. I realize that our economy is in shambles right now, but there are parts to the stimulus package that aren't critical (ie helping restore old buildings).

Anyway, I am starting grad school in a few weeks and decided to move the "Education" section of my resume to the top now that I can put down that I am pursuing my degree. DH wasn't sure I should do that since I don't have my degree yet, but if I moved it to below my "Experience" section, it would be on the bottom of the second page. I hate to move it that far down when I think it could help me, even if I haven't yet graduated.

What do you think?

Re: Resume question

  • I would put it at the top and show pursuing degree 2008-present, with expected gradution **** .
  • I would make 2 resumees one with it at the top one at the bottom.  If you are applying for a job that education isn't as important send them the one that highlights your experience. If you are applying for a job that lists education as a very important job requirement send them the one that highlights the education that you have and are currently getting.

Nothing wrong with having 2 versions that highlight diffrent things.

That being said if you are looking for a job that will let you use your education both completed and in progress send the ones with the education at the top.
  • Another option would be to keep your resume the same (ie, have experience first), but highlight the fact that you're working on your graduate degree in your cover letters.
  • I always have Education as the first section of my resume and then Experience. I used to do what Shanna suggested by putting an expected graduation date.
  • I agree with MrsKing.
  • Thanks, everyone. I appreciate it!
  • i agree with sabrina on having a few versions, and shanna's wording.

i have like 10 versions of my resume, its kind of depressing actually.

best of luck in the job search!
