1. What type of flooring do you have in your house? Would you use it again? Advantages/disadvantages?
2. What type of countertops do you have in your kitchen/baths? Would you use it again? Advantages/disadvantages?
Re: House poll
2. We've got laminate everywhere, and is fine. It's easy to clean, and we've had no problems with the durability of it (as long as you don't use the surface as a cutting board) LOL!
1. we have hard wood floors in our entryway and kitchen, carpet everywhere else except bathrooms and laundry room where we have vinal that is supposed to look like tile. I would rather have real tile in the bathrooms and laundryroom but it was more expensive and the vinal is really easy to clean. Our carpet is top of the line (the highest upgrade) and I wouldn't change it for the world.
2. Our kitchen counter is lame, I don't even know what it's called. It was already in the house and we didn't have the option to change it. I would have put in granite or corrion if I had the choice.
1. Hardwood in most of the downstairs, ceramic in the kitchen area, carpet the sunroom, and laminate in our upstairs rooms until we can decide what we want.
I hate laminate, but realize it is a cheaper alternative to spending thousands on hardwood. I would NEVER put california berber in a room again, ours looks horrible and it is good carpet and only a couple years old
2. We have granite in our kitchen, and our bathrooms are just the fake marble stuff that came with the house when we bought.
I personally love the granite and don't think it is a big deal to take care of. I also only have 1 seam in my entire kitchen, so maybe that has something to do with it. Baths are hopefully going to be changed out at some point.
2. We have laminate counters in the kitchen. I would have loved to have done Formica Solid Surface or Corian but I didn't want to "out do" the neighborhood so we stuck with laminate. It is super easy to clean and eas relatively cheap but we have to be really careful about staining and knicks from knives.
1. In the kitchen we have laminate that is original when we bought it. I hate it! When I clean it still looks dirty. Although guests have commented on much they like it. Go figure. In the master bath we have cermaic tile. I love the master bath now.
2. Honestly, I am not sure what kind of countertops we have. The countertops are original to the house when we bought it. The bathroom countertops are faux marble and clean easily. The kitchen counter top is black and looks nice as well.
1. Our kitchen & bathroom are ceramic tile. It was put in prior to our moving in - when the house was remodeled. I have no problems with the tile. The rest of our house is hardwood, original to the house. I love hardwood floors, love them.
2. Our bathroom does not have a countertop. We have laminated countertops from Ikea in our kitchen - I really don't know much else about it since it was also put in prior to our moving in. I have no had any problems thus far with them.
1.) We have either tile or carpet in entire house. We haven't changed any flooring since moving in. I eventually want to do HW on the entire first floor. I do like carpet for BR's though. I just don't like tile- it's hard, cold, can crack or break, and just has a "sterile" feel I think. I like the warmth of HW.
2) Corian in Kitchen- also here already. I like it a lot actually! It is very durable and always looks good. If we ever replace it, we would replace with granite.
Powder Room- We remodeled and we put in Carrara marble. I love the look of it, but it does show water spots. I would use it again though cause I just love the way it looks.
Other bathrooms- Cultured (fake) marble. It's very durable, but just NMS. We'll probably replace with granite eventually. We had installed a granite countertop in our condo and it was great.
1) Our entire first floor (besides the entry area and the 1/2 bath) has laminate flooring and I love it. It's easy to clean and makes the house look SO much bigger. My allergies suck and I think getting rid of the carpet downstairs has helped. We're still afraid we'll scratch it, but we've had it since September 1, 2007 and still haven't (knock on wood!). The upstairs is all carpet and it's fine--nothing special
2) Ummm...just plain laminate (is that what you call it?) in the kitchen (we put it in ourselves) and whatever the builders put in in the bathrooms. Again, nothing particularly special. I really like the look of the kitchen and can use any cleaner I want on it.
1.) Ceramic tile in kitchen. Would use it again, but with a more 'dirt friendly' color. Laminet in the bathrooms. Would use again, great for chaning designs. Carpet in the rest of the house. Have a nice burber that I love because it doesn't show the tracks. Would use it again too.
2.) We have laminent counter-tops. I would use them again, with a different finish. Ours are textured and they hold the dirt. I have to use a Magic eraser to get the dirt off.
1. Hardwood: foyer, dining room, butler's pantry, 1/2 bath
Cermaic tile: Kitchen, laundry room, & the 2 full baths
We almost got hardwood in the kitchen too and I am glad we didn't. We have cherry hardwood and while beautiful, we are so scared to scratch it and it has to be cleaned all the time. Our ceramic tiole is so low maintenance - easy to clean and you can't even tell when it is dirty. Plus, I think it offsets all the wood in our kitchen with the cabinets, kitchen table, etc. The advantage of the hardwood is I think it looks great and we have it when you walk in the house from the front door. While this isn't an area we frequent a lot on our own (we usually enter through the laundry room since it is off the garage, it is what guests see when they first come in. (the dining room & 1/2 bath are off the foyer and the butler's pantry is off the DR)
2. We have a shiny granite-colored laminate in our kitchen (that everyone thinks is silestone or quartz) and I am not sure what the bathroom counters are called - they look like white & cream marble but I know they aren't.
We love all of countertops! They look beautiful and are super easy to clean.
