meeting w/ village gate + henry update

thank you everyone for your prayers and thoughts for henry.

we met with the people at village gate (henry's daycare / vet) yesterday. we scheduled the meeting right after we picked up henry on wednesday evening - before anything transpired with the pneumonia and all that - so our original intent was just to get a clearer picture of what exactly happened to lead to the fight at daycare and to understand what kind of care henry received afterwards. but a lot changed within the next 48 hours and the new plan was to essentially beg for money to keep H alive. we had maxed out what we could afford and he needed thousands of dollars more.

village gate feels that they followed correct procedure with the daycare and administered proper care to H. i still have questions, concerns and my own opinions, but i readily admit that those may be tainted by my high level of emotions. however, i do believe that they genuinely care about H. we were overwhelmed and surprised with their compassionte response to our request for help. they pledged to contribute $5000 towards H's medical care. they dropped off a $3600 check to us later that evening, without which we would have had to take H off the ventilator and put him down by the morning. he is still in critical condition and the odds are very much against him. but he's still fighting. i'll post a full update later today on my blog.

i have one last thing i want to address. i was reminded last night what a very public place the internet is, including this message board. the folks at village gate had read the posts here and perceived some of the comments made as threatening. i "know" or really know (IRL) most of you so i understand what was said was in support of me/henry, and by no means to be taken literally. but it's the internet, and there are crazy people out there... so the vet at village gate was concerned for her safety after reading some of the comments. i just need to make you all aware of this and ask that we keep the support on the more positive side :)

Re: meeting w/ village gate + henry update

  • I am so glad they were responsive to your request for financial assistance, even if they feel they followed correct procedures.  That will be a huge help to you as you work to get Henry better.

My heart goes out to you during this time and you are all in my prayers.  Good luck and keep us posted.
  • Thank you for the update on Henry!  I've been wondering how he's doing.  I am so happy for  you that you are now able to continue treating him--hopefully things will soon be looking better for him!
  • thanks for the update on henry and im glad they gave you some money to help you keep him going.  i hope that everything works out in the long run!!!  Keep us updated
  • can you post your blog link again so i can keep up with his progress.  Thanks
  • I'm glad they were willing to provide financial assistance. I continue to keep Henry in my thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery. Hugs to you!
  • I apoligize if my comments caused the vet to feel threatened, obviously not my intent. I am angry with the situation and feel it was handled very poorly. I know how upset I would be if it were my pet. I'll just stop there, as I have nothing nice to say.

My sincerest hopes that Henry pulls through.
