Skybus shuts down

from the Dispatch's website:

Skybus shuts down, cancels all flights

Skybus Airlines, a Columbus carrier that excited central Ohio travelers with its $10 fares, is calling it quits.

The airline will announce at 9:30 p.m. that it will no longer be in business Saturday. After today, all flights are canceled.

  • Ooh- sorry for the crazy formatting! There's actually a link to the full story by clicking on "Skybus shuts down."

  • My DH works for a private jet company and he told me earlier today, and I forgot to post about it.
  • I cannot imagine if I had a flight scheduled for tomorrow! I would be po'ed in a MAJOR way!
  • Oh wow!  I can't image what those poor people feel like.  We were looking at tickets just last week at work...
  • Oh, that sucks! I have a friend who has several flights booked with them this summer- she is going to be sad.
  • oh no! a friend at work is planning a week vacation for next week with skybus flights :-(

i guess $10 flights really are too good to be true for very long

  • My in-laws are in Orlando with a flight back to Columbus on Skybus on Sunday. They literally recieved notice two minutes before the first announcement scrolled across our TV set here at home. Luckily that were able to find a relatively cheap flight home on another airline.

I would be so mad if I were in there shoes though. Bummer.
  • Doesn't stacibear work for them???  ((HUGS))

  • AGH! Guess we won't be going on vacation at the end of the month after all.

Though it sucks even worse for Josh's co-worker who flew out on Skybus for a work conference and is now stranded.
  • A guy on DH's soccer board tells the story of a wedding that everyone was supposed to fly out on Sunday to catch the cruise for.... 30+ people all trying to rebook in time to make the cruise.  Can you imagine being that bride??  She has to be freaking out.
  • just fuucking great. there goes my trip to Naples, FL with my girlfriend in Auguest. Im flamming right now.
  • We are using Southwest to go to Fort Lauderdale this June.  It was actually cheaper than Skybus.  But, now that I am looking at the flights again, some of the prices seem to be going up.  I would suggest looking at them if you had/were planning to buy a flight with Skybus, since they go to a lot of the same places.  But I would do it now before the costs go up more! :)
  • I never post here as I am a destination wedding knottie, but I do live in Columbus.  I traveled over to this board to see if there was any Skybus news I had missed.  I just wanted to let you guys know that I am the bride that Mrs.Pink is refering to!  It is funny that I happened to see that.  Freaking out isn't even the word for it!  Any prayers our way would be wonderful!  That has been a nightmare..
  • We were supposed to fly down to Florida in June.  I am now trying to find a new flight without breaking the bank (the cheapest I have found is over 2x the Skybus price we had).
  • The news said to contact your CC company to try to get your money back.
  • We had tickets for 4/12 with them.  We actually ended up getting cheaper tickets with US Airways last night.  That would have SUCKED if they would have waiting a week though!
  • Oh geez, Jamie, my heart broke for you when I heard the story!  Good luck with everything.
  • I only post on occasion, but something's on my mind. I don't mean to offend, but do feel I have to say this. It most definitely sucks that vacations are cancelled and people are stranded. My heart goes out to you if you're one of these people - I can imagine your frustration. But for a minute, I think we should all give a little thought to how many people have lost their jobs in an instant and how this will affect Columbus and our local economy. As reported in the Dispatch, Skybus brought record numbers of people through our airport. Many of those people fed money into our local economy. There are a lot of people affected. This is a bummer that extends way beyond stranded travelers and cancelled vacations.
  • good point marie! this is a blow to the city all around.
