Fun Poll: Wedding Secrets

I saw this on another board and thought it would be fun here.  What is one thing from your wedding that you look back on and laugh knowing that no one else had any idea?

Mine: I had to start getting ready at 7:30 in the morning since our pictures were at noon before our 5:30 wedding.  I knew I didn't want to walk down the aisle starving so I sent DH and his brothers to Subway to get some food about 2 hours before the ceremony (which they got for free since they were all in tuxes).  So, there I was, in my dress, in the church eating a subway sub.  The only problem was that we forgot about a cup and in a couple of my pictures, you can see a Subway cup in the background right by the front, center doors.

Re: Fun Poll: Wedding Secrets

  • We hired Brutus the Buckeye to come to our reception, and we didn't tell anyone.  It was a fun suprise! :)
  • I had a fight with my mom after everyone had been seated and the wedding party was walking down the asile.  It was one last time for her to try to control me, and I wasn't going to have it.  I shushed her up, and things were fine.
  • Our best man had a friend pick up his tux and he didn't try it on before to make sure that it fit. He walked into my parents house before the pictures started and said "we have a BIG problem." His pants were 5 inches too short! Luckily there was extra material in the hem and my Mom ripped the seam out, lengthened them and did an iron on hem. Thank God for my Mom or he would have look ridiculas!
  • p.s. That's why I hate After Hours!
  • My best friend married DH and I and we had him start the ceremony with the "mawwage" speech from Princess Bride.  It was quite hilarious.
  • DH bought me pearl & diamond earrings as a wedding gift. When I went to put them in about 30 minutes before we were supposed to take pics, the post on one broke off from the pearl. Superglue wouldn't hold it on, so we ended up using NewSkin (it's a liquid bandage that you paint on over cuts where a band-aid wouldn't stick) to glue the pearl/diamond to my ear for the entire day! Only my BMs and photographers knew about it, and there's a fantastic picture of a BM holding the earring to my ear until the adhesive was set!

I called the jewelry company after the HM they were so apologetic & sent a replacement a week later.

  • DH and I had a little "make out" picture session (PIB) during the reception.  It was right after we did the whole family pictures that my mother insisted on (think of trying to gather about 80 people for one picture).  I was just about to scream and told Ryan and my photog that I really wanted to have it right then so I could get away from those people for atleast 15 minutes.  The pictures came out great and are some of my favorite of the whole day.  My parents still haven't seen them... I think they'd flip if they knew I was in the basement making out with DH, his hand up my dress, and allowing someone to take pictures of it with all of our guests looking for us for over 15 minutes.  hehehe
  • My BIL walked around all day with a size 10 shoes, when he really wears a size 13.  Half of the groomsmen had a different shade of green vest.  And my younger brothers tux was maybe 3 sizes to big.  I will agree with pp, when I say I HATE AFTERHOURS!!
  • We were supposed to be married outside and didn't even have a back up plan for rain. It started raining a couple of hours before the ceremony and I was optimistic and wouldn't let anyone move the ceremony chairs into the condo clubhouse where the reception would be. I kept saying that the rain would stop. Finally about 30 minutes before the ceremony we finally moved everything inside. We ended up having the ceremony inside on our dance floor and all the guests raved about how smart we were to have a back up plan in case it rained. HA!

We ended up having our photographer (my brother) take our photos outside with umbrellas.

  • We had all of our wedding pictures taken before the actual ceremony and forgot to put on our wedding rings.  So in ALL of our pictures, we don't have any wedding rings on!
  • The groomsmen all had the wrong color vests/ties. Josh's was ivory (which was right.) But both of theirs was grey/silver and they were supposed to be rust/bronze. (Our colors were ivory/brown/rust/bronze/gold.) BUT everyone looked so sharp that day, that I didn't even notice until looking at the photos like 6 months later.
  • Among many crazy things that happened that day:

I had my wedding at a hotel downtown, while the 2007 NCAA 1st/2nd rounds were going on in Columbus. My photographer was taking pics of DH and I and had us move through the lobby, where Virginia Tech's b-ball team was waiting to go to Nationwide Stadium, and as we passed by, they were cheering for us! It was cute! Too bad they lost that day. =)
