I was just reading your post on pets -- I have an almost full bottle of lysine left from when we were taking care of the stray kittens, but my cat doesn't need it. (It definitely seemed to help the kittens, btw.) If you want it, let me know -- it's just taking up space in my house.

Re: *kristylynn*

  • That would be awesome!

Is there anything I can give you for it?  Litter, food, etc?

Did you have any ideas from my post?  When you say it "helped", how did you see a change?

  • The kittens were pretty sick when we brought them in -- matted eyes, sneezy, general URI symptoms. So they were on antibiotics and eye ointment for quite a while, and the lysine we put in their food. We kept them on that the whole time we had them, after we finished the other meds. So it probably wasn't the lysine alone, but by the time they left us about 6 weeks later, they were healthy and strong. My understanding is the supplement works along with everything else to strengthen their immune systems, and they were such sickly little guys with such a dramatic recovery that it's hard to imagine it didn't help.

I don't need anything -- it's just good to have it being used, rather than sitting on my counter! Email me at charliepear at gmail dot com and I can mail it to you. The stuff I have is tablets with powder in them, which we just mixed in the food. It's not flavored, so she might not lick it willingingly, but it mixes easily with a little bit of canned food.

  • Not trying to butt in, but my cats have had URI (paired with pink eye) before, and I gave them L-Lysine supplements. URI's/pink eye in cats is usually caused by a strain of the herpes simplex virus - and a lot of cats get that in shelters. It gets aggravated by stress on the immune system. L-Lysine is a good supplement to help "calm down" the virus... I take it (in pill form) if I think I'm getting a cold sore.
