I am looking for a new bank. I bank with National City, and their fees are HIGH! I accidentally overdrew my account, which was a $36 fee. I didn't know it, and they charged my account $8 a day for the time it was overdrawn! It was a costly $68 dollar mistake, and the bank refused to budge on the fee.
Who do you bank with, why or why you not recommend them?
Re: Where do you bank?
Our "main" bank is USAA. As long as you, your husband, or family member (parent/step parent/maybe a sibling?) are or were an active member of the military, you can join. We absolutely love them.
We accidentally overdrew once and we didn't get charged. I'm not sure if we overdraft protection or not. I think they automatically gave that (overdraft protection) to us. It's free. I love that its 100% online and all I have to do to deposit a check is scan it in (and as long as you get it in by like 5 or 8 pm that day, it's credited that day). I love that I can go to any ATM and they will pay the ATM charge. Plus, I haven't had any problems with them.
Before we got married, we had an account with Commerce Bank and US Bank. We just closed our US Bank account because it wasn't working for us. We haven't had any problems with Commerce and still use it as our savings/backup account.
We bank at Regions. I will never switch because of the experiences I have had. They are great to work with and I have overdrawn my account and because of the relationship the bank sent me a letter stating that the account had been overdrawn but they would not charge any fees. I thought that was great that they even notified me and I didn't have to ask. There have been other experiences as well this one just stands out to me.
They also have an interest bearing checking account with no fees for enrollment or annual so that is nice. I don't feel like I have to constantly be switching our money to savings right away anymore.
The only drawback is the area we live in there aren't too many near by but there is one right by my bank so I can make any deposits etc. easily during the work week.
