cleaning - how much do you pay?

we are in the process of hiring a new person to clean our house on a bi-weekly basis. i know we got our old housekeeper for a steal and was expecting to have to pay more, but i am getting quotes that are all over the board.

what do you pay per hour? or do you pay a flat fee per visit? the person we are leaning towards charges $25 per hour and is estimated 5 hours. does that sound right for a 2000 sq ft house?

Re: cleaning - how much do you pay?

  • We have someone who cleans for a flat rate of $60. She is at the house for about 2.5 hrs.  She does an OK job - not great but for that rate its good enough.  She comes bi-weekly as well.  Our house is about 1700 sq. ft.

Where do you live? She's taking on more clients.

  • We pay $25/hour and it takes her about 3 1/2 hours. We pay $85 per visit. We have a 3200 sf home, so I think 5 hours for your house sounds like a lot.

  • We pay $75 per visit and it takes 2 - 2 1/2 hours for our 2300 sq ft house.  They don't do a super great job, but decent enough for now.  5 hours for 2000 sq ft sounds like way too long.
  • chaucer - i live in grandview

i guess i should have mentioned that our entire house except for the 3rd floor is hardwood floors and i want them cleaned by hand... which was adding an extra hour or so to the estimate. but i still thought 4 hours tops. thanks for the feedback.

  • our house is 2000 sq ft and we pay $20/hr every 2 weeks and she stays 3 to 3.5hours so we pay $60 to $65 every 2 weeks
