Anybody know about Avenue Q?

What's it about, exactly?  I'm trying to convince DH it'd be fun to go, but all I know about it is that it involves raunchy puppets, which really seems to freak him out.

Re: Anybody know about Avenue Q?

  • LOVE AVENUE Q!!!!!

It's a combination between Rent and Sesame Street.  They very much play off the Sesame Street characters (which freaks me out a tiny bit), but they're supposed to be early 20s, just out of college, looking for jobs, trying to find their purpose in life, finding love, etc.  There's one sex scene (not sure what it looks like it stage, but the song is called "You Can Be As Loud As the Hell You Want (When You're Making Love)").  The rest isn't really raunch except that they curse and they go see a puppet stripper, Lucy.  lol  I'm sure you can find a synopsis online or something.

I haven't seen it, but am SO excited to go (we have the season tix) and have had the soundtrack for over 3 years (an old co-worker got me hooked on it back before it was travelling at all).

  • I can't tell you much about the show, because I have this thing about avoiding a musical's soundtrack to preserve the thrill of the first time seeing a show.  But I know it was huge during its first year and was up for some Tony's.

My DH is all set for the "cussing puppets".
  • basically it's an adult's sesame street. you've got it right - raunchy puppets. there is a puppet sex scene! (just try to image it). definitely not something you'd want to see with your parents or kids. but so hilarious. my dh loved it.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I haven't seen the show yet (hoping to when we are in NYC this summer), but the soundtrack is awesome. My husband loves the song "The Internet is for Porn". One of the funniest things is that their landlord is Gary Coleman :)
  • Thanks everyone! I'm going to try to get tickets today--I think Sat. is already sold out!
