Homeowner's/hurricane insurance

Hi all, haven't been here in a very long time so I doubt you remember me.?

?DH and I are trying to decide if we're ready to make the leap and buy a house, and I'm trying to calculate what we could afford if we want to keep our PITI equal to or less than our rent.?

?How much is your insurance? ?I asked this on MM, but they all said it might be different (higher) here in FL.??

Re: Homeowner's/hurricane insurance

  • It will depend on your coverage, type of dwelling (construction, etc.), deductible, etc..  My husband and I are closing on a newly built home next month :) and the quotes we received varied from $380 per year to $1K a year for a 2800 sq ft town home. We did get some discounts due to security system, fire sprinklers, etc., etc. so keep that in mind when you're looking at your potential new home.

  • Our house was built in 07, has a barrel tile roof, CBS on both levels, and 2800sqft. We pay $800/yr.

If you have a newer home, or an older home that is CBS with a new roof...the rates aren't nearly as bad as you would think.
