POLL: Company appreciation
What are some things your company does to show recognition and appreciation to its staff?
Re: POLL: Company appreciation
Every Friday morning, one of the attorneys is assigned to bring in donuts and bagels for the office.
Every month, there is a combined birthday/anniversary dessert celebration.
We have an activities committee that plans parties and events throughout the year. Most recently, we got Cheryl's cookies (for Easter) with a little messae on them. We have a holiday party at the managing partner's house with AWESOME food.
They do a lot, much more than any other office I've been in. And a few people don't appreciate it and think they should do more. I think they do a great job, though.
I forgot to add: for Administrative Professionals' Day, they have rented out a movie theatre and we are seeing Leatherheads and having lunch provided (on company time). They also do a "little something" each day for that week.
The staff got together last year and did a pancake and sausage breakfast for the bosses - Chris Cakes was throwing pancakes at everyone for about 1 1/2 hours!
We also have a recognition system where people get corporate pats on the back for doing a good job, BUT, no supervisor really does it anymore. I've been with the company 2 years and I don't have one (yeah, yeah, I know, but I SWEAR, I do a good job at work, but sometimes I feel that no one notices that, and it feels crummy).
Honestly I would love that it be less food based or less junkfood based since I'm trying to eat healthier. I would love to see things like small gift cards to target or a small gas card.
I think food is easy as long as you don't have too many people on special diets (vegetarian, kosher, etc)
- food: cheryl's cookies on small holidays like valentines day, st patricks day, etc., thanksgiving lunch, drinks & hors d'oevres at quarterly briefings, occasional breakfasts.
- summer picnic. they really do it up - like amusement park rides, casino games, etc. but last year we had construction on grounds so they rented out cedar point.
- 2 holiday parties. one of families and one for adults only at gameworks.
- raffle off tix to various events like blue jacket games.
- and my very favorite: summer hours! 1/2 day fridays in the summer.
recognition and appreciation? what's that?
Oooohhhh....you MUST be talking about the 32 oz. water jug that I got last year......I forgot......
Last year we got a zip up fleece---all in men's XL.
Our principals make an appreciation breakfast for us once a year. Last year it was eggs.
I work for the state...in the executive budget office. we don't get much obviously. We do recognize people's birthdays (they get a card and their office decorated for the day with banners and stuff), but the birthday person is responsible for bringing in their own treats to share with the office!!! I am not kidding.
Our other "appreciation perks" are:
*flex time (runs from the time the Legislature adjourns in the spring until October)
*picture taken with the Governor when the budget is signed...we all get a free framed picture.
Nothing. We have been told that we are lucky to have jobs.
Although, they did give us a nice contract extension.
If you've worked here 5,10, 15 and then 20 years, you choose something from a catalog. I got a circular saw this year for my 5 year tenure.
When I worked at Children's, they had quarterly recognition lunches with food & awards, and we got nice quality free stuff for the holidays (jackets, umbrellas) and when the hospital got named a best place to work in Columbus.
Our company does nada (as you know)...within our dept. we have a self-appointed morale committee. I am sort of a part of it but probably not recognized as part of it by management. We make birthday treats every quarter. And sometimes we have a picnic out at West Jeff...it's potluck, as is the holiday party if they have one. We also have group cards for weddings and showers for babies.
Oh, I forgot, there is the company "outstanding performance awards"...but you gotta work with the right people that actually nominate you...so that just depends on who you work with if you actually get them.
Sometimes they let us wear jeans on non-Fridays. Yeah...jeans.
Our immediate supervisor is very good about birthdays and random bagel mornings. Those come out of her own pocket I think. (At least I used her Sam's Club credit card to buy cake last month.)
I've only been there since Nov, but we get to wear jeans every Friday...get 1/2 day off on the days prior to a holiday (ie: Wed prior to Turkey day, Friday prior to Mem day etc). co-workers can rqst a 'pencil' (yes it's a real pencil and when you get 10, you can trade in for a $25 gift cert. Also...supervisors can give gift cards at will...I've received 2 so far...1 for going to the other building (I did it just to get away from the stress) and 1 for staying the day of the big snow storm to get the mail done...$75 for about 40 minutes AND I missed all the traffic! I guess they do a big picnic every summer and last yr it was at Sports Ohio w/tons of food, games and prizes. They also do free lunch, muffins, ice cream etc...we just never know.
Ok...so not much exciting BUT since I came from a place that didn't even recognize Christmas, it's a nice change.
