Hi. I just saw your reply to my OP. It was my OB that actually caught that my thyroid was severely enlarged, by touching it. Sadly, I never noticed it. And this sucker is huge. I look like I have a huge adam's apple. My OB did blood work that came back proving that my thyroid was way out of wack. I've been exhausted lately, but I'm a new mom and I work, so I figured that's just the way life is. :) Anyway, after talking to my Dr. it sounds like I've had several other symptoms of hypothyroidism but didn't realize it (saddness, extreme fatigue, heavy head and tired eyes feeling, intollerence to cold, hair falling out, dry skin, etc.). Over the last month, when I started weaning, I had been feeling the baby blues all over again. I just figured that my hormones were all fouled up again from nursing, then weaning over the last month. Dr. says, probably not and that while masked by the above, the symptoms are likely brought on by my thyroid being out of wack. She said the hypothyroidism was probably bought on by childbirth, but was likely to happen as some point down the road anyway. Good news is that once regulated it's easy to treat (a pill a day). I'll be anxious for the meds to kick in so I can get some energy back! :)

  • WOW! Amazing! I didn't know it could be brought on by childbirth. I have heard there are terrible mood swings when weaning and I am worried about that! Thank heavens she caught it!

My doctor found a tumor on me a few years ago that was really big and I had never noticed. Thankfully, it was benign. It's so strange I never noticed it, really.
