So bummed..

I can't buy a new outfit for my birthday next week.  I accidently used my fun money account and I did not realize it.  So I went to Kohls and bought a few things. I went over my account balance by $1.70.  The bank charged me $36.50 as an overdraft fee. WTF?  The real kicker is I decided to return the stuff to Kohls because I changed my mind.

I know it was my mistake when I used the wrong card for my shampoo. But I think that it is ridiculous that the card was not declined when I was at Kohls.  Of course they accept the purchase so that they can charge 37 dollars as a fee.  How stupid!

Ok. Vent over.

Re: So bummed..

  • Call you bank and explain the situation.  Since it was such a small amount that you overdrafted they will probably take the charge off.  It doesn't hurt to ask, the worst they can do is say no but I doubt they will.
  • yick! that sucks!!!

    Sorry about the bad luck

Usually most banks will waive the fee appx once a calendar year if your a "good customer" otherwise.. alwyas worth a try just tell them you made a super mistake and haven't done it before and if there is anyway the fee can be waived you'll love them forever...

my dad taught me that trick and it's come in handy a time or two when i've made a payment a day or two late, or forgot to pay a bill!

  • Yeah, if it's not a regular occurance and you explain the situation, the bank should remove it.

    (I've done the thing!)
  • I have already called the bank and the lady would not remove it.  Maybe I should call back and try another customer service person.

  • I would call the bank, and if they refuse to waive the fee (or "forgive" the fee, as they sometimes say), I'd close the account and open one at a new bank.  Banks are a dime a dozen these days, and why would you want to stay with a bank that's so inflexible when you make a simple, honest mistake?    I even explain it to them like that -- and I've never really had to close my account and switch.  They always waive the fee.    That said, if they don't waive it, I really would close the account and go to another bank.
