We're going on a quick little cruise in about a week or so and we're stopping in Key West for a day. Where should I go? What should I see? Most importantly, what and where should I eat? I should have some key lime pie and conch fritters, right? Who makes the best?
We only have a day, but last time I was there several years ago, I spent the entire day in a Chico's with my mom and aunts. I don't want to do that again this time. I was not on speaking terms with them for the rest of the night after that. TIA!
Re: Key West recs?
Rent bikes for about 6 bucks a day. Then go to Hemingway's House and take the tour and see all the cats. I believe the supposed best Key Lime Pie is on Duval Street. It could be pretty cool to go to the Cemetery, strange, I know. There is really no beach worth seeing, so I'd spend your time bee-bopping around the bars and stuff.
Food Network has a good list of restaurants in Key West to check out. It is on their webpage.
Mallory Square (where the boat will dock) has a bunch of shops. I don't like Key Lime Pie so I am no help there.
Have fun!
We used www.keywest.com for much of our planning during our honeymoon.
Place we loved the food at:
Crabby D!ck's (great key lime pie, good seafood and decent prices)
Cheeseburger Key West (awesome gourmet burgers)
Margaritaville (it's the original!)
Neat places to see:
Turtle Kraal's (restaurant & turtle racing)
Ghost Tour (thought the history of the island was great)
Sunset Cruise (was beautiful, left from the Hilton)
Mallory Square (DO NOT MISS, little shops, afternoon performances, nice place just to stroll)
Places to drink:
Lazy Gecko (kinda like the crystal @ OU)
Fat Tuesday (has a wall of frozen margaritas)
Sloppy Joe's (great night life & live bands)
