Need help

Hi, this is my first post. I have answered a few, but never started one.  I used to be a live-in nanny, but since I get married in October and then bought a house last month, I no longer am.  Someone wants me to watch their new baby in my home, I have no idea what to charge.....I know it won't be close to what I made as a nanny!  I was wondering if anyone would be willing to tell me what they consider to be a reasonable rate for infant care.   Thanks!

Re: Need help

  • My friend takes her daughter to a sitter and she pays $40 a day. (She started as an infant at the rate and is now 16 months old.)
  • We currently pay 30/day
  • Anything from $25 to $40 a day is what I saw when looking.  Also, make sure you hammer out what you will provide vs. what they will provide (i.e. - diapers, wipes, table food once they are older) and if you are charging by day or by week.  Also, determine whether or not you will claim this on your taxes next year so they know if they can claim the tax credit.
  • Thanks for your help.  I don't think it will work though, I told her $25 a day and she thought that was too much.  Thanks for the advice about taxes and food and stuff, I hadn't thought about that either.  Maybe the best bet is to work at a daycare center or preschool.  I have a degree and used to be a preschool teacher before I nannied.
