Dyson question

We have a suffering vacuum and a "iffy at best" carpet cleaner.  Both do the job, but not great at getting out crap/stains as much as they used to.

Would replacing both with a Dyson be of any use, or do we want a fancier thing that does more about stains?  Having pets and a baby on the way (and a DH who spilled his coffee all over the laundry room), I really want something that will pick up liquid stuff, too.

Also, about 1/3 of our house has hardwood floors.  Can you use a Dyson on hardwood to pick up fur?

Re: Dyson question

  • I think the Dyson would def. be an improvement over the vacuum cleaner, and it does have a "bare floor" setting that turns off the brushes. We use that on our tile, but we don't have any hardwoods, so I can't speak to them exactly.

As for stains, we just do the best we can with stain sprays and stuff. Our carpet is pretty crappy, so we are just waiting until we can replace it with hardwood.
  • I would recommend the Dyson, and I use it on my tile (like pp, I don't have hardwood floors, but I'm sure it'd be fine). As for the cleaner aspect, I would say that the Dyson should work for most everything, then you could just get your carpets cleaned once or twice a year. GL with your decision!
  • I use my purple dyson on the hardwood floors all the time.
  • the entire 1st and 2nd floors of our house are hardwood and i use a dyson on them to vacuum dog fur. no problems at all. i use the bare floor setting.

  • We have the purple/pet specific Dyson and LOVE it! Our German Shephers had long fluffy hair and was just everywhere all the time. She shed worse than any dog I've ever known. It looked like the desert in our house with dust bunnies (only they were hair bunnies) rolling constantly. We could vacuum twice a day and we'd still find little pockets of hair. But our Dyson was great. Not only does it get the hair and other crap off of carpet, hardwood and other types of flooring, but you'll be stunned at the pet dander it picks up. It's really gross, but amazing. And the fact that it's bagless is fantastic. It's a very easy to use, light-weight vaccuum. I would highly recommend the Dyson. If you need more of a "steamer" type of deal, we have the Spot Bot and works great on small stained areas. We used it to clean up our dog's messes and other stains. Just an idea. HTH. :)
  • I used my Dyson on HW too.  For stains- I swear by Resolve Spot Magic.  You spray it on and the stain disappers before your eyes!  (and doesn't come back)
