Kitchen Appliances - Help

The house we bought currently has hunter green counters which aren't our style.  They currently have white appliances in there and are leaving the dishwasher.  Since DH and I have to purchase new appliances this spring we are undecided about which color to get.  The cabinets are oak and we will be changing out the counters next summer to either tan granite or corian.  If we got black appliances now, it would look horrible with the green counters.  If we get white everything would match, but it's not our favorite.  We are thinking stainless might be our best option to go with both counters (current and new), however I'm not sold.  So....which color would you go with and if you have stainless steel do you like them?  What do you do to keep the fingerprints to a minimum?

Re: Kitchen Appliances - Help

  • We have stainless steel with black accents.  SS dishwasher with a black upper portion.  SS microwave and oven with black handles.  Our fridge is black.  I would go with SS.  I don't have any problems with fingersprints.  They really aren't that hard to clean.
  • I'd go with stainless steel too.  Crate and Barrel actually sells a mit-type thing that can be used to wash SS without leaving streaks and fingerprints.

  • We have SS appliances with black accents. We love them. I'd highly recommend the sears outlet for a good deal on appliaces. We got a 2600 fridge (ss) for 650.

  • We have stainless steal appliances and I love them! We bought them when we purchased our house because the old appliances were out dated and didn't match. The SS makes the kitchen look so great and I think it looks good with all different kinds of counters and cabinets, esp. different colors. You can't go wrong. To keep them clean I just use a simple stainless steal cleaner. I have the mit from crate and barrel, but it doesn't work very well...it just doesn't get the job done for me. The cleaner I use is just a simple spray that you spray and then buff. Pretty simple.
  • BTW... We bought all of our appliances from HH Gregg. I was really happy with their service. Since we bought everything from our fridge to our washer and dryer (about 5 appliances plus the hood for the range) they gave us a great deal on all of the warranty's (extended them from 3 to 5 with no charge). They also took all of our old appliances for free.
  • definitely stainless steel. this is what most people prefer nowadays and will help with the resale value in the future.

  • Stainless steel here! I love it.  There's wipes you can buy at Lowe's  that work well. Also, a lot of appliances are now made to be smudgeproof.
  • I'll agree with everyone else - we just got SS last fall, and I think I've cleaned the smudges, etc. only twice so far! They're not the fingerprint-less ones, but I think the models made now stay cleaner than when SS first came out it seems. We absolutely love the look, and I also agree that it's a great plus for selling.
