Food bank idea....

I don't know how much you all know, but organizations that 'get' food from the Mid-Ohio Food bank, buy it!  It's not free, but really, really cheap.  So...giving to the Mid-Ohio Food bank is great, but think about giving it to organizations that have food Pantrys...thus they get much needed food and don't have to pay for it.
Don't get me wrong, Mid-Ohio is wonderful, but...
Groups like The Open Shelter, WARM (in Westerville), Salvation Army, Faith Mission just to name a few all have pantry's and need food too.
The items that really are needed are:
Canned meals (pasta's, soups, etc), canned fruits and veggies, box meals (all in one type), mac and cheese etc.  Canned meats like tuna are so useful... Cereal, dry milk, baby food, diapers, etc...
Think EASY to cook and can be made in 1 pot as many folks don't have the luxurys that we all take for granted (like a working oven!)
I LOVE the idea of a Nestie food drive and of course am 1000% behind it.  I can't be there Monday, but Harry took 2 HUGE boxes to his office today.  I always shop w/coupons and Target is always wonderful for 'free' stuff, so he took our stuff today as they too are very low!

Hmmm, how many pounds can we all give!  Harry took in almost 100 lbs today!

Re: Food bank idea....

  • that's interesting to know, thank you for posting this.
  • That is some great information. I didn't realize that the food pantrys had to buy it from Mid Ohio.  Thanks for the information. I'll be looking for somewhere else to donoate stuff then.
  • Don't get me wrong...they pay say .12/pd or .92 a case in some cases...ther things are 4.50 a case etc.  It just all depends.  99% of the stuff is cheaper then anywhere else, but still...think about giving directly to the groups and it's a win/win for all!

Keep up the good work ladies!  You all make a HUGE difference in so many peoples lives...esp. mine!
