Organizing plastic containers/tupperware

How do you ladies organize your tupperware/rubbermaid and such? I hate how we have ours now...just in a small cupboard, all the lids are on the bowls and stacked. It always seems like they all fall out when I pull one out.

Re: Organizing plastic containers/tupperware

  • I just always say a little prayer and keep my fingers crossed when I slam the drawer shut!  :)  I try to stack all the bowls together and keep the lids seperate; usually underneath or alongside.
  • I don't have much, but I do have one really large piece tupperware and I put all of my small tupperware inside. It keeps everything neat and tidy and they don't spill all over the place.
  • I am fairly proud of my tupperware system.  I have a cupboard (below counter) that has a roll out shelf.  On that shelf is the container, stacked inside each other according to size.  Then BENEATH that shelf is a large gladware container (long rectangle) that has the lids stored vertically.

To get to this point, I had to clean out all the crazy mismatched, and start over a bit.  I bought 3-4 new ziploc screwtop containers, which I love, and gave the old crazies to our Art Dept. for paints.

  • I have two stacks...one for round and the other rectangle/square.  They're nested inside each other according to size and I keep their lids either underneath them or standing vertically on the side.

  • I'm with Steph. Despite all my attempts to keep them organized, I usually just shove them in and hope they don't fall out.  I have to reorganize every few months and stack the bowls inside one another and then lids all together in a larger tupperware container.

  • First rule of keeping anything in the kitchen organized is not let my DH do dishes.  He just doesn't get it. However I don't ban him from doing dishes I just wait until I'm at home alone and go through all my cupboards and drawers and re-organize.  I figure a messy cupboard is worth not having to do all the dishes in my house so I let him do dishes any time with out complaining about it.

That being said I stack like shapes and then stack all the lids and put them on top.  I got some of thoes new ziplock containers with the "interlocking" lids to see if that helps at all.
  • We bought plastic baskets at Big Lots--one for the lids and one for the bowls that we've put in our cupboard.  We actually just did this two weeks ago and I couldn't be happier!  Before we were just throwing them all into the cupboard and hoping they didn't fly back out!
  • I'm sitting here imagining all of us peeking around cupboard doors to see if anything's going to fall. And then everything comes tumbling out! I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue! I think part of the problem is that I have several different types..some are from IKEA, some are Rubbermaid, some are cheap throw-aways. So, they don't always work just going inside each other.
  • I have 2 pulls out that I keep bowl stacked together (like bowls together round w/ round, etc) and then I keep the lids in a couple tupperware containers on the bottom pull out.  I did this about a year ago and it makes things so much easier!
