Question about buying a house

DH and I are going to start looking into buying a house, but I hear a lot about points.  What are these?  I'm really confused about a lot of things that go into buying a house :(

Re: Question about buying a house

  • Have you met with a lender? They will be able to clarify all those things with you!  Paying for points will allow you to essentially pay to get a lower interest rate, resulting in a lower monthly payment.
  • No, we've been looking in different areas and have an idea of where we would like to buy but that's the furthest we've taken our search.  I talked with Shanna ages ago about a few things about buying a house but just had some general questions.
  • I agree with Amber that it would be a really good idea to go talk to a lender to get an idea of how much you'd be approved for and then you can ask all your questions about purchasing points and such.  Like Amber said, you can use cash to get a lower interest rate.  And you can do calculations to determine what will be the best option for you (and the lender will do those as well).

If you need a recommendation, let me know--we saw a fantastic one for first-time homebuyers :)

  • I 3 recommend talking w/ a lender. :)

John @ Equitable is great if you want his info again!
