Ugh - in a funk....(baby related)

Sorry, this is sort-of baby related, but I'm looking for some Columbus nestie/mommy support today. As some of you know, I have been pumping exclusively (rather than nursing at the breast). I have been going through the weaning process very gradually, over the last 2-3 weeks. I'm now down to pumping only 3 times a day (8 hrs. between pumps) for only 7 minutes at a session. Starting last week, I've been experiencing mood swings, almost like bad PMS. I'm having flash backs to the first few weeks postpartum. I feel weepy, anxious, overwhelmed, really tired (went to bed Fri. night at 8:30p cause I couldn't keep my eyes open) bloated and irritable. I've done some web research and this appears to be normal and caused by hormonal changes from weaning. Anyone else experience this? If so, how long after stopping breastfeeding did you get back to normal? TIA!

Re: Ugh - in a funk....(baby related)

  • *hugs* No advice, but I totally relate to the hormonal issues going along w/ pp and bfing.
  • I didn't notice any hormonal changes when I weaned, but I was also pregnant when I weaned.  So if I was weepy, I probably blamed it on that.  Hope you feel better soon.
Weaning is also an emotional change to go through as well.  Hang in there!
  • This is absolutly normal. I can remember very distinctive changes in my moods as a result of hormone changes. Still happens sometimes and much moreso than before I had my girls unfortunately... I will say that as soon as you stop pumping altogether and your body catches up (a day or so.) It's like the change from being pregnant to not being pregnant but you start to feel like yourself again :) and quickly. Hang in there, it gets better!!!
