Possible job op in Marysville, ?s

My husband is looking at a job opportunity in Marysville. What is the area like? Where are the best places to live (i.e. where are the best schools)? Is there a lot of traffic commuter or otherwise? How far from Columbus? Can anyone give me an idea what property taxes are like (eg. $250k home with 1/2 acre)? What don't you like about the area?

Many thanks!!

Re: Possible job op in Marysville, ?s

  • Marysville is about 20 minutes NW of Dublin, which is a suburb of Columbus.  It is a blue collar town with a lot of farming on the outskirts.  There is a lot of commuting to Honda (the major employer of the area) but I wouldn't call traffic "bad" compared to city traffic.

Property taxes are moderate compared to some of the suburbs.  I just looked up a house and the taxes are $3300 approx.

Good luck to your husband.  Central OH is a great place to live, and if you need any real estate advice, let me know, I work for RE/MAX in Dublin. shannalafontaine at yahoo dot com.

  • DH and I are actually moving out to Plain City by the end of this year.  It's not far from Marysville (I think apx. 10 mintues).  All of the schools in that general area are pretty good.  One of the best (and the one we are moving into) is the Jonathan Alder district, though Shanna could definitely give you more info.  She's our agent and has been wonderful to work with so far!  I'm sure she could give you a great deal of feedback on all of the areas near there.
  • From 270 (the outer belt of Columbus) and Rt. 33 (which takes you into Marysville) it's about 12 minutes from that intersection.  I've lived in Marysville for about 4 years now and I love it.  My only dislike is that somedays I just wish that I had more friends in Marysville.

It's a very blue collar, farming town as Shannon said, although it's growing like crazy and the people are really nice!  It's a great location to be in because of the growth and just being that "little bit" away from the Columbus area.  Columbus's growth can be a little overwhelming sometimes...

Traffic in and out of Marysville, during rush hour can be maddening!  I do it everyday and it can be really frustrating!  It's a two lane highway (on each side), in and out and typically people just don't know how to drive.  It's pretty typically to be backed up for about 20 minutes or more over NOTHING!

From Columbus it's about 20 to 30 minutes, it just depends on where you want to go.  The hardest part about Marysville is convinencing someone that it's really closer than you think.  The problem is that you don't really drive by Marysville when you are going any other place in Columbus, so people just have a hard time with the "distance."  Honestly, it's close to Columbus and as close as I want to be for now.

Marysville schools are great!  They have really improved thanks to Honda and all of the growth that Honda brought to Marysville.  I don't have kids but my neighbors do, and have nothing better to say that good things about their schools.  Plus, they are building new buildings almost every school year just to keep up with the growth.  Nice new facilities are a plus!

Our newest addition to Marysville that I'm very excited about is the Asian Buffet.  We've actually never been to the buffet but they have "made to order sushi" and it's great!  We had no access to sushi in Marysville before this place and it's something that dh and I both love so we are really happy that it's so close now!  The retail side of Marysville is picking up!  It's going to be great when we have more stores at our finger tips.  For right now, we have to go to Columbus for only a few things.  We don't mind though because it's not that far!

Any other questions, just let me know.

Personally, I love Marysville and I'm really happy with our decision to move here!!!

  • We have lived in Marysville for about 3.5 year and we love it also.  We live in town and love it, but there are also some newer subdivision on the outskirts of town.  DH & I both grew up in the country so we really like the small town feel that Marysville has, but it is still so close to Columbus and all the ammenities that spoiled us when we lived in Columbus for about 10 years.  It is a very quiet and peaceful place.  You can go outside at night and see the stars and hear nothing, even in town!!  We like to walk downtown during the summer for their many blockparties and farmer's market and we are within easy walking distance to 3 parks to take our DD to as she gets older.

Taxes and home prices are very reasonable compared to the Columbus suburbs, that is why we moved here.  You can get alot more house and land for your money here.  Traffic around Marysville isn't bad.  The commute into Columbus can be a pain, especially if it rains or snows, but traffic anywhere around Columbus when it rains or snows is crappy.

Good luck with the job opportunity!
