majorly jealous of you!
"enjoying the nice weather, spring training game"
ugh....I'd love to be in your shoes this weekend!!

Do the Diamondbacks do their spring training closeby?  Anyone else? We are going to be Glendale at the end of March to visit DH's brother, and we'd like to take in a game while we're there.  You know Cincy is going to be doing their spring training in AZ next year?

Hope all is well with you and your husband!

Re: osumelissa re:jealousy

  • Trust me, you won't be jealous come June when I'm complaining about 115 degree temperatures before 10 am! :)

There are tons of teams that do spring training out here. The Diamondbacks actually train down in Tucson, which is about 1.5-2 hours from Phoenix. The Anaheim Angels are the team that does their training closest to us...their field is in Tempe like less than 10 minutes from where we live!  The Giants, Brewers, Cubs, Royals, Athletics, Padres, Mariners, and Rangers all also have their spring training facilities in the Phoenix area.  Actually, the Padres and Mariners fields are in Peoria, which is the city next to Glendale, so that would be the two closest to where you will be staying.

Next year, Cincy and Cleveland will both be moving out here for spring training, so that is really exciting!

  • very cool!! i think jeff's brother is supposed to be looking in to tickets for us. i didn't realize so many teams did their training there.  i thought most of them were in florida.

i'm so excited to visit arizona and feel the warm weather! i've never been anywhere in AZ other than the phoenix airport. :)

well have a great weekend....oh, and you're right - i won't be envious of 100+ temps this summer!

  • ahhhh, Sky Harbor Airport! That is like six minutes from our apartment...it's kinda freaky driving home from work and seeing planes land...they aren't that far above the freeway!

Phoenix is a nice area...hope you guys get to explore it! And if you are at all outdoorsy, there is tons to do. We've started hiking and have done a few of the peaks in the city. And the time you are coming is supposedly awesome in terms of weather!

Oh, as for baseball spring training, the teams that train in Arizona are the "Cactus league" and those that train in Florida are the "Grapefruit league" :)
  • IOohh, thanks for info about the leagues.  I've never heard of it before;  although I never really paid any attention to baseball until about two years ago.

We are a bit outdoorsy, and we definitely plan to do some hiking.  I think we are actually going to take a day to drive to the Grand Canyon too, spend the night and drive back the next day.  I'm super excited to see it.

Good to hear about the weather!  I'm definitely feeling the winter doldrums here, and can't wait to feel the sun. Although its sunny here today, it's still 26 degree!

  • Have fun at the Grand Canyon! We haven't been yet, but are hoping to get up there sometime. I think it's like four hours from Phoenix, so not too bad at all.
