If I remember correctly, we emailed before you got the job at VWG right? Your post below is so similar to mine!! I quit VWG after 2 years and being past up for the promotion from assistant to manager (Loved my manager and she had trained me for the job. Bob the *** thought I was too young. I hate that man. Sorry, I digress). So I quit to move to FL with my husband's job. We move back here and I take another assistant's job at Essington Village. The property was in disaster and in the three weeks I worked there I cleaned up the files and discovered about $60K in delinquent accounts as well as 4 apartments with residents still living in them even though the office thought they were vacant! (One unit was "vacant" for 6 months!). So I couldn't take it. It was making my life hell and I like a challenge but this was ridiculous. I'm talking dealing with health situations to having residents physically removed from my office (even had the police called on me!) So I put in my notice and that prompted the manager there (also relatively new) to quit too.
Don't count yourself short and don't let the suckiness of the job get to you. Truck through it and as you interview tell your interviewers about the current situation. It got me so far just by my telling them the stress and situations I was and had been dealing with. It'll help them see that you are able to handle more than answering phones.
Good luck!!
Re: ***tropical.dreams***
I completely agree, Bob's an asss. The very first time the man ever met me was when I was getting written up for something completely WRONG (my boss was retaliating against me b/c I pissed her off), and he kept telling me what a "bad leasing agent" I was. WTF ever.
ANYWAY...LOL...this property has some MAJOR issues, although not quite as bad as squatters! I can't even begin to take a stab at talking about them, or I'll get all riled up! I'm putting in 45+ hour weeks, and still not being caught up; I've had over 50 shows, and gotten ONE lease. (And we're required to be at a 33% closing rate to keep our jobs!) But we're not offering any specials, and our prices are higher than our comps, and we offer less than they do. And I'm trying SO HARD, too, to get the leases, it's just not happening.
I did talk to my boss today, and she's talking to the regional VP, one step above her own boss, to negiotiate, I suppose. But even if she stays, I still feel overwhelmed, and don't really even want to do it. Hell, I almost would rather go back to VWG...at least I know the product is good, and the residents are happy, and there's no major drama other than the boss being a childish backstabber.
Thanks for the vote of confidence...from EVERYONE who responded to my post below, as well, and I'll give you all a separate post. I just needed some level heads to listen and advise...I know I can always count on my Columbus Nesties!
