Hourly rates for nannies?

Hi! My sister is considering taking a job watching a 3 and 5 yr old Mon-Fri this summer. She's not sure what nannies typically charge per hour. Does anyone here have a nanny? If so, could you pls share what you pay per hour?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Hourly rates for nannies?

  • when you say "nanny", that makes me think she's going to go to their home everyday. is she also going to do light housework or cooking also, or just make sure the kids are taken care of? from what I have seen, which isn't much..... someone in your home for two kids should be at least $350/wk if not more depending on the arrangement. but that's with my limited knowledge. most people around here pay in the neighborhood of $150/wk for one child in a daycare provider's home, so for two kids with the luxury of having someone coming to your house should be more than that, esp if they are good and if they do extra housework.
  • My friend pays $450 for their full time nanny to watch their 2-year-old. I believe she works 8:30-5 each day.
  • I babysit for a 3 and a 5yr old. I get paid by the hour because I am only there on Tuesday and Wednesdays. They pay me $10/hr cash....about $150/wk. Personally I would be asking for more, but I only have the 5yr old half the day because she's at school.
  • My sister is a full time Nanny and charges between $11-$13/hr.  She has her degree in early childhood education though and does much  more than just look after them.  She practically raised her last family's children (taught them ABCs, songs, how to count, basic math, how to read, tie their shoes, etc).

  • Oh, and yes, she did light housework and cooked too.

  • we've been nanny searching and the quotes we are getting are around $10/hr = $500/wk. but this is for someone to come to our house full-time during the week, watch only our infant and also do very light housework / straightening up.
