Hello!
My husband and I will be moving to Las Vegas in early June. We are
currently living in TX, so we will not be escaping the heat but are very
excited about a change of scenery!
Currently, I am working as an elementary teacher, but I am not sure I am going to continue with that when
we move. My husband will be working at University Medical Center.
We are looking to buy a house. If you are able to share any information about jobs, where to live,
and things to do in the area we would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!
Re: Introduction!
Hi! This board is pretty slow. Hopefully with more and more ladies moving here it will get to be more active! There's another post a few down requesting info on places to live. Here's my thoughts:
My favorite parts of town are Green Valley (89074, 89052, 89044--Anthem area), Southern Highlands (89141), Rhodes Ranch (can't recall zipcode), and Nevada Trails (can't remember the zip). I also like Desert Shores, Pecole Ranch (89117) and Summerlin, but I don't know as much about those areas. I live in Mountain's Edge and while I originally loved it, the economic downturn has really affected the area and the building has completely stopped, both residential and commercial. There's no infrastructure whatsoever.
If your husband is going to be working at UMC, I would look for areas with easy access to either the 95 or the 15. Of the ones I recommended, I would probably recommend Southern Highland since it's right off of the 15, although it is pretty far south on the 15. I definitely recommend visiting first before buying and getting a feel for each neighborhood. I probably wouldn't live right near UMC, although there is an older, gated community behind the hospital that has some gorgeous homes with lots of land--something that's hard to come by in other parts of town! Otherwise, UMC isn't really in the best part of town.
Now is a great time to buy a house. The market is perfect for buyers. Lots of foreclosures and short sales, as well as new construction at reduced prices. If you end up finding places and need more info from us, just post your questions.
