Completely agree with you on Good Earth. Other books I didn't like because of the characters: As I Lay Dying, Prep, Housekeeping, Where or When (another Anita Shreve) & The Corrections.

Brooke, I totally knew that you'd list "Where or When", I figured it would have been first, LOL.
When I was looking it up on Amazon, because I had blocked the title from my memory, I was reading the reviews and it's always intersting to read good reviews for something you disliked so much. I always wonder if I missed something or if they're just dumb! Sort of like how Dawn & I are the only two people who dislike The Corrections.
It did get good reviews! (I hadn't read it prior to picking.) I wasn't bothered by them that much. I am always wanting the happy ending between old lovers, but theirs was completely random.
