Cost to replace a windshield?
I'm going to call my insurance company and see if I have glass coverage, but if I don't (or the deductible is high), does anyone know how expensive it is to replace a windshield? As I was parking the car, I got a HUGE crack across the bottom part of the windshield--about a foot and a half long (so no, not smaller than a dollar bill).

FYI - Safelite will generally beat/match anyone else's price. Safelite.com will give you a quote.
Yeah, I used Safelite previously for a different car through a different insurance company and don't remember how much I paid
Too bad it isn't the same car! I think I will give them a call...if it's not more than $200, then I don't think it's worth making a claim to the insurance, do you???
And is it unsafe to drive a day with the windshield cracked or should I try to get it fixed today?

Okay, my system gave me $217, which is the same as the web site. Sometimes they are a little different when an employee asks for a quote and schedule, but with it being a pretty common windshield the prices are probably going to ring true. Like Mrs. Pink said, we usually beat any other prices, so fee free to shop around.
You can set up an appointment online at www.safelite.com. We'll come to your work and replace it there, so you won't have to take the car in and miss work or try to carpool.

Luckily, DH and I actually carpool every day to work, so it's not a horrible inconvenience for us to be down one car, but I love the service that Safelite provides!

Mrs.Jenn&Jeff, how do I go about getting the price match stuff? I got a quote for $198.91 installed, including tax, including new mouldings (whatever that means) from somewhere...but do love Safelite's warranty and service...
I second all the PP, but I wanted to say "sorry" about your windshield. Its no fun at all.
If you call 1.800.800.ASAP and tell them you would like to set up an appointment. Tell them you went online and Safelite gave you a quote of 217 and you called another shop and they said 198, usually the person will book you at that price.
