Chiropractor? Need advice- a little long
Last January (2007) I began to notice a subtle pain in my right shoulder that gradually became worse. It got to the point where I could hardly move my arm. I nursed it for a couple months and it was fine for a period of several months. Back in November it started to act up again to I went to an orthopedic surgeon and he diagnosed me with tendonitis due to impingement in my shoulder. He suggested I take Advil or Motrin multiple times a day for pain, rest my arm as much as possible (which is difficult because I am a teacher and it is my writing arm) and to do strenghtening exercises. I have seem little improvement since then and decided to stop taking advil because it didn't help all that much and I didn't want to put so much of it in my system if it wasn't helping. I am really frustrated because I come home every night in pain and sit with a heating pad on my shoulder all night. I am starting to wonder if a chiropractor might help but I have heard mixed reviews about chiropractors. Does anyone have a good or bad review of chiropractic care? Thanks!
Re: Chiropractor? Need advice- a little long
I love love love my chiropractor. If it weren't for her, I'd still be in daily pain from the way my body has shifted during my pregnancy. And I would have had a much more difficult recovery from a car accident and a fall on the ice in the past.
I think mixed reviews on chiropractors come from mixed batches of chiropractors. I saw one here in Columbus whose best technique was to fold me like a pretzel and jump on me. Dr. Arndt, however, knows exactly how to get what she needs out of me. I may not see her for months, but she still knows how to get my tricky body to relax and pop back into place.

If you don't see Dr. Arndt, I still recommend you go with a recommendation from someone and then go for a consult. FYI - insurance does not always cover this sort of thing. For this reason, Dr. Ardnt does a 5-pack bundle of adjustments for $130 ($26 ea) - not much more than the average co-pay!
I definitely would give it a try!
I went to Edward Holmes at Blacklick Family Chiropractic (on Broad St. in Reynoldburg). I switched to a new place when I moved to Marysville.
To be honest, even if one doesn't help you, you can always try another. They have different techniques so that can make a difference also. After Holmes (who I love) I went to a new place and I was worse off going there and he didn't listen when I would say things and just do whatever.
Since then I have switched to another new one and it is so much better since they actually listen and do more to actually help me get better, like stretching and exercises.
You might be in a little more pain than usual at first but that is normal too so give it a month or 2 before you decide if it is working for you as well.
I will continue to rave about my experience with my chiropractor! I'm 100% certain that had I not been under their care for the year leading up to my surgery, I would've had to have the surgery much earlier than I did.

I too have great stories about my chiropractic experience. I've been seeing one on and off for different things for about 15 years. Mostly back pain due to an injury when I was younger, but I've seen mine for neck pain and joint pain and all kinds of stuff and I'm always pleased with the results.

You should definitely try one of the doctors recommended here. They may or may not be able to help you. A good one will be up front with you and tell you that right from the start, but if they think they can help you, you'll be very happy with the results.
