Why?! Tax refund - poof!

Why is it that whenever you get a sum of money that you are excited about putting into savings, it's gone faster than anything?  We're getting about $900-something back in refunds and it's seriously already spent.

$400 from State already allocated to increased spending this month due to trip to TX.

$500 from Federal just spent today!  My car's hidden radiator issue finally reared it's ugly head yesterday and requires pretty much an overhaul of the cooling system.  On one hand I'm glad that finally the problem is finally diagnosed (2 other places, including a dealership couldn't figure it out), but on the other hand I hate the timing of it all.

I guess I should just be thankful that this isn't coming out of our emergency-fund, which until the fall was pretty much on life support  :)

Re: Why?! Tax refund - poof!

  • I hate when stuff like that happens!
  • That sucks, Julie!  But I guess just be glad you've got that money to use.... :)
  • Maybe the car waited to break until it knew you had some extra money to fix it. Does that make sense or am I nuts?
  • Yes, it's such a nice and thoughtful car  :)

Actually I am thankful that we got through the summer and the problem seemed to go away when it got cooler out, because we were very tempted to trade it in for a new used car.  We know now that that would have been a bigger financial strain than we need right now.

I am getting $250 for a focus group/product test next week though!  I guess things have their way of happening when you can best respond to it.

  • Wait. Yes it makes sense? Or yes, I am nuts? Craaaaaaap.
  • story of my life (and money :p) whenevr i think i'll be a little ahead something comes up and takes away the comfort net :p

    sorry about the luck Julie

  • Yes, you make sense, Rooette  :)   I definitely can see the positive side of the situation.  I told DH that if this fix gets us through the fall at the very least, it will be worth it.
  • That seems to be the norm in our household  LOL!  Everytime we have a decent amount of $$, boom, something in the house breaks, or we have another unexpected expense pop up!
