embarassing but scary story

so i decided to make meatballs today and turned the oven on to broil well, we never store anything in our oven so i didn't look inside. well duh we got pizza last night and the leftovers were inside and i smell something funny. i suddenly remember the pizza and open the oven and flames shoot out! i am running around panicked thinking what do i do. so i grab the boxes and take them outside to get out the flames and eventually had to go into the fire pit while my smoke alarm is going off. Now my house reaks of smoke and my husband is coming home soon-he's going to have a cow.

Re: embarassing but scary story

  • That is scary. Thank goodness you house did not catch fire!
  • that is really scary! DH spilled sgetti juice all inside one of our burners recently and the next time i used it, it caught on fire! freaky!

do you have a small extinguisher in your home?

  • I'm glad nothing else cought fire!  Hopefully your DH will realize it was a mistake and just be glad that you and the house are ok :)
  • Glad that everything is ok-I put the pizza boxes in the oven all the time cause the dogs think they are getting it if left out on the counter and then DH goes to cook the next night and there is the left over pizza all nice and warmed up!

  • That is so scary! I am glad that the rest of the house didn't catch fire.  Open all the windows that should air the kitchen out.

  • That happened at our house when we were kids.  My dad (who's the smartest man I know) thought it would be an okay idea to heat up the pizza in the oven - in the box.  Caught fire, of course!

So it's not that embarrassing - happens to the smartest people.  :)

  • I have done the same thing! My family moved into a new house and I was helping my mom bake a cake. She had to run and arrand leaving my brother and I home alone while I pre-heated the oven (never opening it up first). We smelled something, opened the oven and flames came out. There was instruction manuals left in the oven since it was new, and they went up in flames. We used a fire extinguisher and we were still finding white powder all over the house years later!
  • How scary!  So glad everything turned out okay, though!
  • I'm so glad you're ok. Scary is right.
  • Oh no! I'm glad you're okay.
  • glad to hear im not the only one who has done this. the funny part is im the one who put the pizza in there. dh was not upset just laughed at me. we do have a fire exstingisher (not spelled right) but i couldn't find it of course. kinda glad i didn't use it after what jodi said about finding powder years later-what a mess. i have a feeling i will always check now regardless

  • Yikes!  That's exactly the reason I keep telling DH we need to get a fire extinguisher.  You never think it will happen to you and then something innocent like that happens.  Glad everything is alright now.
