Granite Recommendations

Has anyone recently remodeled a bathroom/kitchen and have some recommendations for good granite fabricators?  We are looking for someone who does good work and obviously is reasonably priced.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Granite Recommendations

  • Modlich in Grandview had great prices and did a great job.

  • This is kind of off-topic -- but we have granite in our kitchen and master bath.  If I had to do it all over again, I would choose a different material.  As you may know, Granite is a morphous rock so its porous -- so you have to be careful with what cleaners you use both to preserve the rock and the sealant that's on it.  Even windex is bad because its acidic.  Anyway, I forget what it is called but they make a fake granite that doesn't have these issues that I would recommend.
  • Sorry, I don't have any specific recs either.  We have granite in our kitchen and I love it.  But that was there when we moved in.  We've been researching places to get our bath remodeled and just had an estimate from Miracle Method.  They do surface restoration and it looks brand new when they are done for half the price as a full remodel.  For our bathroom counter, we are going to get a textured coating.  I'm just bringing this up in case you can't find a place within your price range for real granite.  This is a good alternative option.  Here is their website...

  • One of the cultured granite products is called Zodiac - it's just as expensive as Granite, but a lot more "user friendly"  :)  The rep that we use is Moellering Industries and I believe that a fellow Cbus Nestie works there, Andrea.  What the heck is Andrea's Nestie name??  Rodeogrl maybe???
  • With granite there are pros & cons
    Pros:
    1) Nothing else is granite
    2) Great resale
    3) Extremely durable
    4) Huge color selection

    Cons:
    1) Is pourous, must be sealed on a regular basis to prevent staining (we recommend every year for darker colors and every 6mos for light colors)
    2) Depending on usage, could chip on certain edges and designs
    3) Not repairable

Zodiaq or Quartz surfaces is a man-made granite. It's crushed quartz in a resin base that is set in a mold and shaped into slabs. It is non-pourous so it doesn't require sealing. However the colors available aren't as vast as granite and they tend to be more consistent. So if your looking for something unique and one of a kind quartz isn't for you. Cost wise it's in the same price line as granite.
