God wants me to stop eating cupcakes.

Two segments on tv today about cupcakes that I've had to watch with the sound off, because a provider called and would not stop talking about trivial stuff.  I'd feel better about it if it were a client who was in need or something, but this really makes me sad.

I think it's a sign?  No more cupcakes?  I swear I was not this obsessed about cupcakes before I was pregnant, and now I have between 2-5 a month.

A better sign would have been to fail my 1-hr gestational diabetes test.

Re: God wants me to stop eating cupcakes.

  • So Julie, please tell me about your favorite cupcake place. I know you said it's not the Powell one, which is the only one I've been to. Does the one you like better (Cupcakery, right?) have the same kind of set-up, where they make certain flavors every day or are all the flavors always available? Their website isn't the most helpful.

Oh, and if your obsession is pg-related, what's my excuse? =) I swear, I would eat cupcakes daily if I didn't live at least 20 miles away from these bakeries.
  • Cupcakes sound sooo good right now...I bet Amelia will have a sweet tooth! :) I love that name, BTW!
  • It's the Cupcakery in Dublin.  It is my opinion that it has a combination of good cake and good frosting -- a lot of places are either/or on that.

They have a few options.  They have usually about 5 flavors of cake daily and I think about 5 or so frostings.  They feature their "cupcake bar", where people can decorate their own cupcakes and add fun candy toppings and such.  I think it's a really cute idea for kids.  Being more of a minimalist myself, I go for option two, where I pick out a flavor of cake and frosting, and they do it for me with no toppings.

Just a cupcake with frosting is $2.  If you do the "bar", they weigh it, so it can go upwards of $3, I think.

  • Julie you and all this cupcake talk are PURE evil :(

I obviously mean that in a nice way... :)

  • Ah, OK. That's not so good for a planner like me who wants to know exactly what flavors and frostings they'll have. But, I mean, how bad can it be? It's cake. I'm sure I'd find something I'd like.

    What flavors/frostings do you recommend?
  • All this talk of cupcakes is making me want to go to the grocery and pick up ingredients to make some for Valentine's Day.
  • They generally have white, chocolate, red velvet, dark chocolate.... something else?  Frostings - chocolate, vanilla (a few different colors), cream cheese...

I wish they had more variety, but they have a good reason why they don't.  They are more of a bakery for events and such, that just decided that they might as well have a store-front for while they are there baking anyway.  They purposely choose not to keep a huge stock in the store, because they want it to be fresh every day.

I would say if you just want up to 6 cupcakes, just head in and see what they have.  If you wanted a dozen, pre-order and they have a lot more options.

  • Ooh, I love red velvet. OK, I'll stop torturing everyone else with all my questions. Thanks for the info, Julie!
