Need Florida recs. Jax, St Augustine, or Daytona?

I scored ten dollar seats on Skybus yesterday for this summer and DH and I are taking our first post wedding trip together for a few days. We fly in to St. Augustine and want either a hotel with a balcony and oceanview or a condo on the ocean. Any recs for staying along the eastern coast near Jacksonville vs St. Augustine vs Daytona Beach? It seems like Daytona hasn't been kept up as nicely as maybe the other areas?

Re: Need Florida recs. Jax, St Augustine, or Daytona?

  • We loved St. Augustine when we went in 2005 (june)
When we went we rented a car, flew into Jacksonville, drove to St. Augustine and then spent one of the 4 days in Daytona... i wasn't impressed at all by daytona, st augestine was awesome tho.

It's got a nice laid back feel
and has a lot of fun history stuff to explore as well as enjoying hanging out on the beach

Our hotel wasn't that great, it was an Inn, but there are a lot of great bed and breakfasts in that area.. i'll look through my list of links to see if i still have some useful ones for there.
  • Thanks! That would be so helpful!!!
  • My vote is St. Augustine. i used to live in FL and I love it there!
  • Another vote for St. Augustine! The beaches are great and there is a decent amount of sight seeing to do (the fort, light tower, etc.). We stayed at a condo on the ocean, but it was a few years ago so I don't remember the name. Personally I dislike Jacksonville - but they may have a  lot to do with working there in the summer!
