Grandview Schools- your opinions needed!

Hello,

We are thinking of purchasing a home in the Grandview school district.  For those of you who are familiar with the schools (attended, have kids enrolled, work there, live there, etc)...what are your general opinions?  Safety, quality of education/teachers, diversity, reputation, etc.

I have researched everything online and would like more 'personalized' information.  Thanks in advance!

Re: Grandview Schools- your opinions needed!

  • I've known quite a few people who have actually moved there for the schools.  As far as the Columbus public school system goes, Grandview is one of the better ones, especially when compared to the taxes paid for Dublin, Worthington, Plain schools!   It is possible to live in those school districts, and still pay Columbus taxes, but it's not the norm.
  • Before going back to graduate school for school psychology I was an educational aide for 1 year in a 4th grade classroom in Grandview.  At the time I didn't have a lot of experience in the schools, but I was impressed with the teachers and the general positive feeling at the school.  Now I have tons of  experience in schools and when I look back, I am still impressed!  The teachers were fabulous and truly dedicated to their students and using the most current teaching practices.  The system is very small so you get a small town feel, all the kids grow up together, parents hang out together while the kids play in each others yard..etc.  Kind of an everyone knows your name type place.  Safety was not an issue.  However, there is not much in the way of diversity.  Most students are middle to upper middle class, white.  There were a few minorities, but not a large portion at all.  There were also a few with more working class backgrounds, but again, not many.
    Hope this helps!

  • I covered Grandview government for nearly a year right after I graduated from college, and it's a great little city. I didn't cover the schools, so I don't have much to add there, but I loved everyone I met who worked and lived there. I always heard good things about the schools.

I mostly just wanted to clarify a previous post that might be kind of unclear. Grandview Heights is its own district -- it's not part of Columbus schools. And the income taxes are among the highest in Central Ohio -- 2.5%, I believe, compared to 2% most everywhere else.

I think it would be a great place to raise kids and I'd love to live there myself.
  • &d&m&y:  You're totally right!  I was doing too many things at once, and completely had something else on my mind!  Sorry for the misinformation!  LOL!

I do, however, know many people who have moved to that area specifically of the schools, and the taxes are lower than many other desirable school districts in the area!

  • Thanks for all the great information!  It's good to hear more positive comments about the area.  I've talked with several people who say that Grandview schools are comparable to private schools (small class size, excellent materials, qualified/passionate teachers, etc).  The taxes are pretty steep on the properties we've looked at so far but it sounds like the schools/community atmosphere is well worth the price.  If anyone else has comments, please feel free to post.  =)
