Mom's come in please

How did you find your babysitter?  I have been on Craigslist.com,babysitter.com,care.com, the newspaper both the Columbus Dispatch and our local paper, been to churches.  I can't find one that I feel even a little bit confident about leaving my daughter with.  Don't know where else to turn.

Re: Mom's come in please

  • Are you looking for daily child care or just occasional (nights and weekends)?

Also, how old is your child?

My daughter was about 6 before I started leaving her with "sitters" (for nights out, etc.), and I went onto Craigslist and posted an ad and screened from there.  But she was also old enough to tell me if something wasn't right.  The babysitter services charge an arm and a leg for the referral, so I steered clear of them.

  • Duh.  I didn't see your ticker before I responded!
  • Just to preface, I am not a mom yet.  Some of the moms I know use college girls from our sorority (I am still active w/my sorority) as babysitters.  They have had good luck and because there are so many girls they usually don't have a problem finding someone.  I have also heard of people hiring early childhood education majors as babysitters.

    GL!

  • Well I have a daughter who is 19 months and will have another one at the end of March.  I need a full time sitter I work from 8:30-5  and I live in the Grove City area and work downtown.
  • When I was in college at OSU, I looked in the Lantern for people looking for a babysitter, then I would contact them.  Maybe you can place an ad.

    Here's the website:

  • check the lantern...your best bet would be to place an ad. I found a great family to babysit for through the lantern a couple of years ago, and it ended up being my MIL's best friends sister...small world.
  • When I was in undergrad and grad school I sat for sitters unlimited for 5 years.  It's nice because most sitters are in college, grad school, or are even moms themselves.  If you find someone you like, you can request them or have several that you rotate between.  Here is the website if you are interested:

  • have you checked the ODJFS website? They have sitters who are all licensed by them I believe.

    Good luck!

  • You should definitely call Action for Children.  It is a non-profit organization that will give you a list of caregivers that fit your criteria.  The work with both in home care givers and commercial places.

When I first had the twins I went through them and was very pleased with the person that I found.  224-0222.  They know who is certified, who has cpr training etc.....I love them!

    Good luck!

  • If you are looking for an occassional sitter, try www.sitterconnection.com

They are an agency and their rates are really good.  They do background checks, interviews and such.  They are mostly OSU students I believe.  I have used them 3 times and have been happy with them.

  • I'm a teacher and one of my parents offered, but if you call your local elem school they'll probably know of parents in the area who watch kids.
