POLL: Top 3 Worths and Best Things About Your Job.
In celebration of my complete lack of motivation today I thought I would start a poll.
Worst:
1. Attitude (when others are in a crap mood it brings everyone else down.)
2. Hours (First one in last one to leave, no over time).
3. Duties (I am a catch all for everything that others do not want to do.)
Best:
1. 5:00 pm everyday
2. 12:30 pm lunch time (sort of since I am still in the building).
3. I am sure there is something I just can't think of it right now.
Re: POLL: Top 3 Worths and Best Things About Your Job.
Worst:
1. Complete lack of challenge or creative thinking.
2. Managers "good old boy" mentality and practices
3. Absence of guidance, acknowledgement, support or appreciation
Best:
1. Flex time (come and go when I want)
2. Free internet (and no one caring)
3. Comfy cubicle
1. Being the one responsible for backing up most people in the office when they're gone--meaning I need to keep up on all projects, attend all meetings, and do their work at times...on top of my own stuff.
2. The Boss: She's nice enough, but if you screw up, she just has this way about her...sort of like when my mom would say "I'm disappointed in you". Makes me want to cry.
3. Stress--I either have nothing to do or 12039487235 things to do. I also have a problem that I take my stress from work home with me.
4. Pay: I probably get paid half of what I would in the corporate world.
Best:
1. Hours are pretty flexible--I work 7:30-4
2. Benefits are good--we have a pretty good PTO policy (especially compared to a lot of people I know).
3. Some of the people--I appreciate some of my co-workers. Sometimes
WORST:
1) Work can be tedious and repetitive
2 & 3) none
BEST:
1) Working from home full time
2) Flexible schedule (not as flexible as it once was, but still very good)
3) 4 weeks of PTO after 1 year of service
Worst:
1. Attitudes-the I don't give a *uck attitude around here but you expect to receive a full paycheck. You can talk to anyone any way you please, complete lack of professionalism.
2. No challenge
3. No commonality of policies. No follow through of policies.
*Please note the work vent below
Best:
I can't think of any today.
1. Manipulative/lazy co-workers: two of my coworkers think myself and two of my co-workers have a plot to bring their team down (we are seperated in to teams by area of government)--seriously I have better things to do with my time. Also, there are two-three people in my office who hold up every single project because they can't get their crap done on time.
2. Stupid projects: lately we have been doing a lot of stuff that adds very little value but takes a lot of time. Most of the time is spent reformatting or rewriting what we have already done. Very annoying.
3. Long days from December-June: the Legislature is now in session; we are trying to resolve a budget shortfall in FY 2008; and are moving forward with the FY 2009 budget. Makes for very long days. I haven't left work before 7 pm in over three weeks. Most of those days, I have been here until 8 or 9 pm.
Best:
1. Flexible hours from July-November: We can come in at 9 and leave at 3 if we want. As long as our work is done, we can pretty much set our own hours. It's the tradeoff for the long days we work in the winter and spring.
2. 21 days vacation per year: granted we are not allowed to take extended vacations from October-June, but it's still nice to know that in the summer when it is really freaking hot here, we have the luxury of traveling. Much better than the 10 days I was pulling in per year at OSU.
3. I feel fulfilled in my job...I am doing what I wanted to be doing after graduating with my Master's. I am gaining great experience that is definitely setting me up for future career goals.
Yeah I have two days left at my job, I start a new one Monday. So for the old job:
Worst
1) good old boy crap and I work with mostly men
2) job is so not challenging
3) People talk to me as if I am a moron
Best
1) perks- gym membership, lots of PTO, company pays for my car
2) free internet access and no one seems to care
3) flexible hours
My new job is going to way different and I can't wait!
Worst:
1. unlimited hours w/ lots of nights and weekends
2. lack of any benefits (vacation, insurance, sick time, maternity leave, retirement)
3. Misconception of public about how realtors make a living and the amount of hardwork and time that goes into the money we do make including all the costs associated.
Best:
1. unlimited income potential
2. no one forces me to work if I don't want to
3. not doing the same thing everyday, stuck in an office.
Great Poll!
Worst:
1. Learn by Fire. Boss never has time to train.
2. Age Gap/Gender Gap. Work almost entirely with men who are 20+ years older.
3. Odd hours. Sometimes get called to work at 2-3am and on weekends.
Best:
1. Work from home!! In my PJs with my puppy on my lap
2. Lots of international/domestic travel.
3. I'm left alone most of the time and never feel micromanaged.
worst
1) my current team, just doesn't motivate me to do my best work because their standards seem so much lower then mine
2) lack of getting paid for overtime; i don't mind working it but would be nice to get comp time or $$$ for it
3) being the only one that does what I do, so i don't have a back up... good for job secuirty bad for when you need a break
best
1) Flexibility with time and such, no "set schedule" or someone watching over me with a time card
2) being respected/appreciated by my management team
3) ability to find a new job within the company easily
Worst
1. Lack of vision inability to hold people accountable
2. Lack of communication or clear direction/boundaries
3. The fact that we move like the majority of our members - at a snails pace. We're 10 years behind in technology and HR practices!!
Best
1. I get to travel (this could also double in the "worst category)
2. I have a great team of people
3. It's 1.5 miles from home so I get to go home for lunch.
1. A lot of driving. We just redistributed clients, so I have to drive less now, but it still gets tiring.
2. Lack of understanding (from the public and some co-workers) about what I do
3. I work in hospice, so it can get sad & depressing.
Best:
1. I feel like I'm where I'm supposed to be right now, and am helping people be more comfortable and content during a stressful period in their lives.
2. Have some really friendly, supportive co-workers & boss
3. Get to meet some amazing patients & families.
Worst:
1. I work in construction so I deal with mostly all men and they think I am a dumb blonde that knows nothing about the industry
2.Small company only 10 of us total and I am the only woman-no room for advancement
3.Not getting paid for what I should and lack of respect or hey great job-no sick pay and no PTO-(except a lump sum check in June and huge christmas bonus)
Best:
1.Flexible hours-I can come and go as I need-but my hours are 8-5
2. I can ride my Harley to work-which is nice since I can wear whatever I want-flip flops in the summer!
3. 100% paid insurance and a nice pension plan with 100% employer contribution
Worst:
1. seeing kids on their worst day, every day
2. different place just about every day
3. crap sub plans that leave the kids board to tears and me dealing with behavior problems because the kids are board
Best:
1. I get paid better in CCS than any other district for being a sub
2. I'm making a lot of networking connections for when hiring comes around
3. I'm finding the schools I love and the schools I hate... so, when I get offered a job, I will know if it's worth taking
1. Flexability - I make my own schedule, especially right now.
2. I am interested in it (which is good, why else would I be staying in school so long for it?)
3. I work with my friends.
Worst
1. I am never off. I always feel like I should be studying even when I am trying to relax
2. I have to take tests and constantly be judged, get graded basically.
3. Working with my friends also means I dont have many friends outside of work.
