Decided to do the display shower!

I think I've decided to do this whole display shower thing....We hosted my brothers fiiances shower yesterday with 70 people (mine will be a little more).  It took an hour an a half to open gifts and people were so not into it....We had it from 2-5 and she was brought in at 2:30 by the time she said hello, and ate we threw her in the chair and opened gifts...by the time she was done everyone was leaving.  I would rather spend the 3 hrs talking with everyone then opening the gifts.

Re: Decided to do the display shower!

  • I think its great. Most ppl HATE sitting though the gift part anyway.
  • Is this for your shower, or someone else's?

I had a display shower and really liked it. But, it was important to have a few gifts to actually unwrap - from moms, grandmoms, and bridesmaids. I spent most of the time talking to guests, and it wasn't 3+ hours!

  • I think it's a great idea. I agree - most showers are spent opening gifts. I'd rather have the time to spend with guests, too. My family would never go for it, though.
  • It's my shower...my girls and my mom asked me if it would be ok with me to do it that way and I was unsure at first b/c I didn't know how it would work.  I know most showers I've been too have been a 3 hr time frame....and most of it's spent doing gifts.  My mom has asked all her friends and family and they are all for the idea and my FI's mom wants to do it too.

My main reason for doing it is the fact that I can spend more time socializing....my brothers fiance had no time to talk to anyone...people were leaving while she was opening gifts b/c it took so long and as soon as she was done the place cleared out.  I guess that's what you expect after an hour and a half of gift opening :)
